When filmmakers set out to make a documentary based on the fandom of someone else's intellectual property, there's always a lot of room for hiccups and hangups when it comes to getting the final release out there and into the hands of the masses. In the case of TURTLE POWER: THE DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, Paramount (who will release the new TMNT movie this Friday) itself is handling the DVD release of this new doc, placing it in-stores next Tuesday, August 12th - when there's a very good chance that four green dudes from the sewer will be reigning box office champions once more.

This Friday, audiences will witness the release of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, the fifth big-screen adventure for the TMNT gang, and the latest reimagining of the popular franchise. When the turtles hit the big screen the first time around, I was there. I had the t-shirt... the soundtrack... but for some reason, never the toys. Over the years, the folks at Playmates Toys have done a fantastic job of of innovating and expanding upon the line, holding the "master license" since the very beginning, and producing action figures and accessories that I've always dug. Now, as a parent, I can enjoy the 'Turtles with my daughters, and yes - we're getting into those wonderful toys! #TMNTweek here on THE ROCK FATHER is a celebration of all-things TMNT, with new posts each day leading up to the release of the film, and we'll kick it off with a Hero Vs. Villain Giveaway - your chance to WIN Master Splinter and the The Shredder from Playmates' new line of Movie Action Figures!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES are sometimes confusing. Having been rebooted many times over the years in cartoon, CGI and live-action (both cinematic and televised) forms, it's often a question of which version of the TMNT is the definitive one? But it doesn't really matter, despite being a now-grown kid that was rockin' a brightly-colored TMNT shirt from the 1990 film back in the day, and who still drools over the latest action figures from Playmates Toys on a regular basis - those based on the current Nickelodeon series. Now comes the trailer for the Michael Bay-produced shot at a live-action TMNT movie, and here's the deal: I like Michael Bay. Take a look...
