After absolutely falling in love with the CARE BEARS upon the release of their latest series, WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT (currently airing Saturday mornings on The Hub), my daughter soon demanded "more Care Bears." Dipping into the archives here at Rock Father HQ, I introduced her to the 'Bears that I grew up with via 1985's THE CARE BEAR MOVIE. Though the difference in animation and storytelling is drastically different, my little one found herself equally enthalled with what she now calls "80's Care Bears." On October 9th, that world is going to crack wide open.
One June 2, The Hub will present the first episode of CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT, the latest in a string of reimaginings of iconic 80s franchises to land on the Hasbro-owned cable net. With POUND PUPPIES, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, GI JOE, and TRANSFORMERS all enjoying decent success alongside the breakout cult favorite, MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, could the CARE BEARS be the next big hit? The Rock Father and daughter were invited to take an early look at the pilot episode, so it's time to share some thoughts.
The Hub released a new preview for their upcoming CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT this week, and it serves to solidify something that I've already noted on The Rock Father: Our family is really looking forward to the new show. Who's not excited? It seems that some followers of MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC are not down with the 'Bears.
Admission: I used to play with CARE BEARS. In fact, I have vivid memories of seeing the original CARE BEARS movie and it's sequel on the big screen back in the 1980s. The Care Bear Cousins were badass, and the Cloud Keeper had a sweet ride. Technically, the toys belonged to my sister, but just as she joined me in playing HE-MAN and STAR WARS, I had many adventures in Care-a-Lot. In the years since, Care Bears have come and gone as their level of mainstream popularity fluctuated, but now they're back with a new series. CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT makes it's debut on Saturday June 2 via The Hub.
