It was more than two years ago already that I reviewed the Season Three Premiere of STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: BERRY BITTY ADVENTURES. While the switchover between The Hub Network and Discovery Family Channel may have stalled things a bit, the fourth season is finally on the way (premiering June 20th), and new viewers are finding the series through the themed DVD collections released by 20th Century Fox. On the latest collection, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: BERRY BEST IN SHOW, we're taken back to that Season Three Premiere, and one of the reasons why I loved it so much: Huckleberry Pie. Yes, the sole male resident of Berry Bitty City finally made his modern-day debut, and the latest DVD collection focuses on something very close to his heart - pets. Want to win a copy of this new DVD? Read on, friends, because THE ROCK FATHER and the FHE Insiders just might get you hooked-up!

My girls have been having some CARE BEARS withdrawal issues of late, with CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT producing just 26 episodes (the last new one aired nearly 2 ½ years ago already), and the next series nearly a year off, when CARE BEARS AND COUSINS makes it's debut as a NETFLIX Original in 2016. While the popular characters from American Greetings are often popping up on those lists of "80's Toys That Are Back!" - CARE BEARS have never gone away for any real length of time, though their licensing partners have changed repeatedly. One of the more recent companies to pick-up the merchandising torch is Just Play, who have been slowly rolling out a new collection of CARE BEARS toys primed to capture the hearts of new fans and old ones (like me) alike. The first item to really hit home for us is the "Care Bears 5-Pack of Articulated Figures," which we're just calling "action figures" here at Rock Father HQ, despite only the arms moving on these 3" figures. Minimal articulation matters not to my girls, who are absolutely in love with this collection, while the nostalgia vibe is mighty for my wife and I...

Strawberry ShortcakeI've written about STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE numerous times over the years, and while you might not immediately think there would be an association between THE ROCK FATHER and these classic characters from American Greetings - there is. I grew up on them, and the unforgettable fragrance of those original toys that Kenner produced in the 1980s will forever be held within my mind. My sister and I had many adventures with the 'Shortcake crew back in the day, and now I have similar adventures with my own daughters. In 2015, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE will celebrate her 35th Anniversary, and it's getting started with the release of SNOWBERRY DAYS, a new collection of winter-themed episodes from BERRY BITTY ADVENTURES. Stream TeamOh yes, the retro vibe is mighty this week (see: RAINBOW BRITE). American Greetings' CARE BEARS hit big here back in 2012 when the recently-departed Hub Network debuted CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT. I reviewed the pilot episode here on THE ROCK FATHER, and later featured the show several times, including in a 31 Days of Halloween entry. I grew up on Care Bears, and have some fond memories of my sister and I playing with the Kenner action figures based on the Care Bears and their Cousins. Yes, Kenner (now Hasbro), makers of the iconic STAR WARS action figures, had a full line of Care Bears "poseables" figures, vehicles and playsets. I had the Cloud Car, along with the Cloud Keeper and Professor Cold Heart, as well as a few like Brave Heart Lion from THE CARE BEARS MOVIE. Why is this important now? Well, the CARE BEARS AND COUSINS are coming to Netflix in a new series.

On September 16, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: BERRY BEST FRIENDS on DVD, the latest compilation of episodes culled from STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE'S BERRY BITTY ADVENTURES, which previously aired on the Hub Network. There's a rockin' theme here - one that finds Strawberry and her friends forming a band - a band which is also making the jump into toy form this fall through a new collection of figures and accessories from The Bridge Direct (check out my review of the Sweet Beats Stage Playset). Now, to celebrate the release, Fox and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up to give you a shot at winning STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: BERRY BEST FRIENDS on DVD + Digital Combo Pack!

You probably wouldn't be inclined to immediately pair STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE with THE ROCK FATHER, but this 37-year-old Dad has a long history with those deliciously-scented characters from American Greetings - a history that dates back well into the early 1980s. Indeed, I had the little Kenner figurine of Huckleberry Pie from the old "Strawberryland Miniatures" collection that Hasbro used to make (I wrote about him once before, here), and after playing with Strawberry and the gang for many years with my little sister, enjoying that world with my own daughters has been an easy thing to do. We've seen the show on the Hub Network, and own some of the DVDs from Fox, and now we've reached the point of getting into the toys as well, and not only do they still smell great - they rock, too!
