Maybe it's just the state of the world right now, but it seems that we could use a little "holiday cheer," and it does seem like 2018 is bringing an unusually large (and welcome) amount of new holiday movies. One big surprise is The Christmas Chronicles, coming to Netflix on November 22 (perfect timing to watch with family over the Thanksgiving week) and starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus. The story follows a brother and sister who set out to capture Santa on video and wind up getting into an adventure. Directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and written by Matt Lieberman (2019's Addams Family), The Christmas Chronicles was produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter). Check out the first teaser below...

The last three months of the year are the best three month of the year, and as wee stare down the coming end of the Halloween season on October 31st, the holiday season fires-up on November 1st when it's 100% acceptable to start listening to Christmas music. As such, Freeform is getting into the spirit early this year, priming the holiday pump with a new event called Kickoff To Christmas - a full month of holiday fun that will lead into their annual 25 Days of Christmas in December. Kickoff to Christmas will also include the premiere of the Freeform original film The Truth About Christmas, from MarVista Entertainment, airing SUNDAY, NOV. 25 at 9:00-11:00 p.m. EST/PST.

2018 Holiday Music & Movies - Ultimate Guide

What new Holiday Music and Movies are on the way for 2018? I'm looking at all the new releases and reissues on the books for this season and will be choosing a hand-picked a collection to showcase here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine. Are there other titles hitting shelves this year? Yes, but as always, they won't all make my list, and I will be checking it more than twice - adding some late additions before December 25th arrives. It's all tied-into my annual Holiday Wish Guide™.

2018 is shaping up to be a decent year for Christmas music with new albums from the likes of Eric Clapton, Lil Jon featuring Kool-Aid Man, Goldfinger, William Shatner, Martina McBride, Mike Love (The Beach Boys), The Tossers, Ingrid Michaelson and others.  In addition to many all-new offerings, we're also seeing the regular patter of having quite a few reissues, with some fairly recent releases being updated with new artwork and bonus tracks for this year's holiday season. Also a recent trend: vinyl reissues of recent and classic albums.

On the home video front, the trend is lighter than it's been of late, but there's still some new offerings and updated collections hitting Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. What's great is that there's an above-average assortment of seasonal fare coming to theaters, including Disney's The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, Universal's The Grinch, and some TCM Big Screen Classics screenings of DIE HARD for its 30th Anniversary (yes, it IS a Christmas movie) and 1954's White Christmas.

Stay tuned... more titles to be added throughout the 2018 Holiday Season!

DIE HARD: Now They Have Pop Vinyls, Ho-Ho-Ho!

Let's make something very clear right now: DIE HARD  is a Christmas movie. Same goes for its first sequel, DIE HARD 2: DIE HARDER. There is no debate, period. With that in mind, it's exciting that Funko and 20th Century Fox have teamed-up for a new collection of Pop! Vinyl figures. Available for pre-order via my affiliates, Entertainment Earth and GameStop, there's John McClane (Bruce Willis), Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), Sgt. Al Powell (Reginald VelJohnson) and Tony Vreski (Andreas Wisniewski), along with a GameStop-exclusive version of Hans rockin' his long coat. A pick for my 2018 Holiday Wish Guide, these figures would make the perfect gift for the action lover on your list. Now can we get Argyle and Ellis? If you want these, you better order them now!

'Tis the season for holiday movies! Debuting on NETFLIX on November 20th, Air Bud Entertainment, the creators of the Air Bud Golden Retriever films, the  Disney Air Buddies talking puppy adventures and PUP STAR will unwrap an all-new holiday adventure film -- PUPPY STAR CHRISTMAS. A song and dance-filled movie for the whole family, PUPPY STAR CHRISTMAS continues the fantastic adventures of the talking (and singing) canine characters that have recently gained overwhelming popularity in the PUP STAR franchise of films. These action-packed and song-filled family stories, feature an adorable cast of dogs including talking Yorkie, ‘Tiny,’ and ‘P.U.P.,’ the street-smart rapping mutt who stole Tiny’s heart.  Check out the just-released trailer and synopsis below!

Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is coming to theaters this November, and thanks to the folks at Funko, some characters from the new version of the classic tale are coming to the famed Pop! Vinyl format. Hitting stores just in time for the 2018 holiday season, the Sugar Plum Fairy and Clara are up for pre-order now via my friends at Entertainment Earth. Check out the latest trailer for The Nutcracker below...
