Quantcast

Two years ago, BEA MILLER appeared on THE X FACTOR, scoring a slot as a finalist and finishing ninth. Now, the 15-year-old (weird to me that she was born the same year I got married) has a new EP out through Hollywood Records/SYCO Music, and this week, the official music video for the title track has arrived. Check out "Young Blood" below, along with a few words about the single from Miss Miller...

dustinperkinsDallas musician DUSTIN PERKINS has joined the likes of PENTATONIX, WALK OFF THE EARTH, and many others that have been putting their own spin on "Royals," the smash hit by LORDE. Aside from the pop-country-laced version he's released (on iTunes now), the video features some kids getting down with the jam, standing in for the grownups. It's better than my version about Batman. Check it out below and let me know what you think...

I have been meaning to cover the phenomenal work coming from Ohio-based music instructor Aaron O'Keefe for quite some time. The work of his students is beyond impressive, and as a musically-inclined father, makes me hopeful of what my own daughters will be able to one day accomplish. These exceptional (and very young) musicians are pulling off covers of some very famous (and some very difficult) songs, and their latest offering just arrived: "Love Song" by THE CURE, and "Du Hast" by RAMMSTEIN. Watch that video below, along with some other favorites of mine that you need to watch if you haven't already...

It's funny how things work out sometimes. A few weeks back, we made a stop at Gurnee Mills to check out the first completed wing of their ongoing remodel. Among the new stores, I spotted one that caught my eye: RUUM American Kid's Wear. The store was fantastic, and only a few days old when we made our first visit. Colorful, and staffed by a friendly bunch, we ended up leaving with outfits for both of our girls (a treat from my Sister-in-Law). I was so immediately impressed that I actually started following RUUM's social networks before we were even done checking out. I tweeted a photo that I'd posted to Instagram - my daughter, Addie, trying on a cute little biker jacket. The folks from RUUM (pronounced "room," btw) noticed, and then asked if I'd like to go back there to explore their store in a more formal capacity as part of my Back-to-School Coverage here on The Rock Father. Mission accepted.

Giveaway: RAWLINGS Vertical Sports Organizer

With summer slowly drawing to a close as Back-to-School enters full swing, thoughts of Fall are already floating around, and one thing I tend to get motivated about is organization. As the seasons change, so do the sports, and the folks at Rawlings have some options to help keep everything neat and ready to rock the field... or the yard. With that, The Rock Father and Rawlings are getting one lucky reader hooked-up with one of their new, Vertical Sports Organizers (a $33 value) to get the kids' gear all neatened up!

I've featured MOTION DEVICE here on The Rock Father in the past - they're a Canadian band of youngsters fronted by a 10-year-old girl named Sara. Well, the band is back with a new YouTube video and a mission: to pursuade RUSH to allow the band to open for them when they play the Air Canada Centre this October. It's been said that they've received praise from Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Amy Lee, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, and more... but will they capture the attention of Geddy, Alex, and Neil? Check out MOTION DEVICE covering the RUSH classic, "Tom Sawyer" below...
