As the start of summer fast-approaches, it's a prime time to "Get Caught Reading!" As such, The Jim Henson Company recently teamed-up with the Association of American Publishers (AAP) to offer a pair of new "Get Caught Reading" Posters - available FREE to educators or anyone (+ $5 s/h) - featuring the DOOZERS and ENCHANTED SISTERS. These new posters join a trio of earlier releases from The Jim Henson Company, including characters from PBS KIDS' DINOSAUR TRAIN and SID THE SCIENCE KID, along with the Sprout/NBC Kids hit, PAJANIMALS. To celebrate the new offerings, and the start of summer, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine and The Jim Henson Company will be getting a couple of readers set-up with copies of ENCHANTED SISTERS: SUMMER'S FRIENDSHIP GAMES, the latest book in the ENCHANTED SISTERS series from Bloomsbury Children's Publishing!
Last month, while I was attending the PBS Annual Meeting in San Francisco, I, along with the rest of the PBS KIDS crew, took a little "field trip" across the Golden Gate Bridge and up to Corte Madera for a stop at Pottery Barn Kids. Now through July 17, Pottery Barn Kids in partnership with PBS KIDS are holding a Summer Reading Challenge that's designed to "inspire a love of learning and literacy for kids and families throughout the summer months." Children are invited to "take the challenge" by reading 8 books from a specially selected list of 20 children’s books - each chosen based on favorites identified by Pottery Barn Kids customers. To celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge, PBS KIDS, Pottery Barn Kids and THE ROCK FATHER are getting one (1) lucky reader hooked-up with a $25 Pottery Barn Gift Card! Details below...
After creating successful viral videos three times in a row with tributes to MISTER ROGERS, BOB ROSS, and JULIA CHILD, PBS Digital Studios is back with a fourth round, this time giving READING RAINBOW the remix treatment. Long before he was rockin' that banana clip visor in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, LeVar Burton was teaching kids (like me!) the joys of reading. I'd say to "take a look, it's in a book," but what you need to see is "In Your Imagination."
My daughter is a tad young for AMERICAN GIRL, but my wife is really looking forward to the time when she'll be able to attend some of their famed 'mother-daughter' events with the munchkin. While we're not there just yet, those of you with girls ages 8 to 12 should take a look at READ-A-PALOOZA, a new program launched on May 1 and running through September 3, 2012. It's a full program ''packed with fun activities and incentives that encourage literacy.'' Check out the details below.
There's plenty of reasons why you should check out THE GREATEST CHRISTMAS EVER, the new children's book from author Sergio Liden and illustrator Francesco Orazzini. We'll start with the simple facts that it's bothgood and FREE, but this new holiday tale is also timely, and is being provided to you and your family with the hope that you'll be able to donate a small amount to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Originally intended to be published for the 2011 holidays with a portion of proceeds set aside for the charity, 2 DADS PUBLISHING (Liden along with Zachary Zemby) switched gears to make the book available to as many people as possible, and here's why - in their own words:
