THE ROCK FATHER is a Folgers Preferred Partner...
When it comes to seasonal beverages, fall and winter tend to be my favorites, and coffee leads the charge. For the latter, nothing beats the warmth of a "Peppermint Mocha" during the holiday season, yet how exactly to make one is something of a debate. There's no shortage of recipes available for coffee drinks that have a dash of mint and chocolate, but most of them tend to be time-consuming, sometimes messy, and generally more complicated than they need to be. So what do I deem to be the Rock Father-approved way to bring a Christmas coffeehouse classic home for the holidays? After some trial and error in the kitchen here at Rock Father HQ, I'm going to share with you my recipe for the The Simplest Peppermint Mocha Recipe to Make at Home, and it starts with Folgers Coffeehouse Blend.
It was initially announced last summer, but now comes word that TMNT x Melo, "a high-octane line of boys’ apparel and accessories inspired by the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," will debut exclusively at Macy's this May. Created in partnership between Macy's, Nickelodeon and NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, this new collection is said to be "channeling the fearless energy of the crime-fighting foursome - a limited-time capsule collection that features graphic t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, pajama sets, and socks, as well as basketballs and an over-the-door basketball hoop so that kids can show off their inner Carmelo Anthony."
When it's Christmas here in Illinois, some time spent in the Chicago Loop is an absolute must. I've written in the past about our family tradition of visiting Santa at Macy's on State Street (in fact, this year's visit is tomorrow), and then there's the always-festive Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza, which we've already visited once this season. No matter what you're into, there's something for the whole family, and the Chicago Loop Alliance has put together a definitive guide to all the Holiday Deals & Events this season. Better yet, they've even curated some daily itineraries of events, along with the full rundown on all that's family-friendly, and in some cases - free.
I keep saying it, but I still can't believe we have a kindergartner here this year. Essentially, if you've been reading THE ROCK FATHER for awhile, you've seen Addie growing up, and while last year we were shopping for Pre-K, this year it's officially time for Back-to-School in preparation for "big girl" school - kindergarten. Gurnee Mills here in Lake County has always been a regular haunt for us, and this year we've teamed-up to show off some of the great fashions and supplies available at the largest value and outlet destination in Illinois (which is in the midst of a remodel and now boasts a fantastic "full-price" wing), by sharing our own Back-to-School shopping experience. This past week, my wife and I took the two girls (Little Finn is in on the action, too) to get decked out for Fall...
Earlier tonight, while having dinner at Infields beneath Macy's on State Street in Chicago, my brother-in-law's girlfriend asked me about my family, and if there were any real "Chicago traditions" that we kept going. Honestly, my answer was "no." As a whole, there really haven't been any longstanding traditions rooted in Chicago for us, despite how much I talk up my love for the city here on The Rock Father. The reality is that when it comes to tradition, the ones we have are the ones that my wife and I have been establishing, and those are the ones that will matter most for our daughters. The big one, is our trip to visit Santa Claus... who we actually visit twice. The first time is always at Bass Pro Shops on Thanksgiving night, and the second (the really big event) is when we visit him in Santaland at Macy's. Last night, our 2013 sit-down took place.
We're officially one week into the New Year, but Christmas isn't quite finished. My Mom had mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I should write something about "Six Christmases," and while I didn't think I would, here I am doing it in January. For my little ones, Holiday 2012 brought Six Christmases. We've got five down and one to go. This blog entry is geared largely for our family to get a look at our December.
