There's a big update coming to Six Flags Great America's Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee, Illinois next year.
Tsunami Surge will be the tallest water coaster in the world, towering over the park's Riptide Bay area at over 86-feet tall. Water-blasting jet propulsion technology will power riders through more than 950 feet of enclosed tunnels and open air slides at speeds above 28 mph. The 25th attraction within Hurricane Harbor, Tsunami Surge will be the first ride at any Six Flags park to use AquaLucent visual events to create "mind-blowing bursts of colors and dreamlike patterns, intensifying the ride experience."
“Six Flags is the undisputed leader in delivering record-breaking rides and world-class thrills,” says Six Flags Great America Park President Hank Salemi. “The new Tsunami Surge water coaster is in a class all by itself, defying gravity to blast riders uphill through 950 feet of exhilarating drops, twists and turns. This exciting, new addition is the perfect complement to an already incredible lineup of the biggest and most innovative attractions in the Midwest.”
Tsunami Surge is scheduled to open during the park's 2020 operating season.
With Veterans Day placing a much-deserved focus on members of the American Armed Forces, many companies are taking the opportunity to say "thanks" with special offers and promotions that are only available for a limited time. At Great Wolf Lodge, the gratitude is year-round as they pay respect to those who have served to product us all year long. The Howlin’ Heroes discount welcomes veterans with up to 30% savings on each stay with the special code: heroes. Great Wolf Lodge knows veterans have continued to protect our families and it’s time to reconnect with theirs.
My wife is not a big fan of my fashion sense (or lack, thereof). In fact, she's long noted the fact that I "dress like I'm 15" (her words), and with few exceptions - such as when I'm attending a red carpet premiere in Los Angeles), her thoughts are very accurate. I've adopted what I often note as my "uniform" - much like late Apple CEO (and nemesis of PC guys like myself) Steve Jobs was once known for wearing the same thing every day (black turtle neck, jeans, tennis shoes), I'm usually wearing a t-shirt, cargo shorts (generally camo), skate shoes and a chain wallet. For the latter item, I've been wearing a Boba Fett edition that I purchased at Spencer's last year, and for the sake of styling, there's actually three chains on it right now - the "stock" chain that came with it, one from a Walmart chain wallet, and a longer one from Hot Topic. Indeed, I do dress like I'm 15 - despite being closer to three times that. "Chain wallets are stupid," scoffs my wife on frequent occasion, and while I do like the way they look - I truly wear them for another, more important reason: to avoid being pickpocketed at all the theme parks and event locations that we constantly visit with The Rock Daughters™. Today I ran into someone else that had a problem with my Boba Fett chain wallet, and that was security at one of our most frequently-visited spots: Six Flags Great America, right here in Lake County, Illinois. What happened at the gate is a prime lesson in why consistency is so important in any job (especially service industries), and an important reminder that sometimes "it's not what you say, but how you say it" that can make all the difference in the world.
I'm telling you something right now: Disney's ZOOTOPIA is about to be HUGE. Over the past few months, I've been fairly ZOOTOPIA-immersed (they made me an official resident), having once again paid a visit to Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank where I met with Directors Byron Howard (BOLT, TANGLED) and Rich Moore (WRECK-IT RALPH), along with Producer Clark Spencer (WINNIE THE POOH) and much of the key creative team for an inside look at the studio's 55th feature-length animated film. Last week, my wife and I also treated The Rock Daughters to an early screening of the film, and in the days that followed, something remarkable happened... they declared it "Better than FROZEN," with our oldest deeming it her "favorite film so-far," and already noting that when she does her back-to-school chalkboard in the Fall, ZOOTOPIA will replace FROZEN as her film of choice. The kids have spoken, and that's all I need. While ZOOTOPIA by itself is a very special film (and one I will review in detail later), in Chicago's far North Suburbs, just minutes from Rock Father HQ is a very special place to see it - the Marcus Gurnee Cinema at Gurnee Mills. This theatre is home to one of just two 4DX theaters in the United States (the other is in L.A.), and to celebrate a one-week special engagement of ZOOTOPIA 4DX, the folks at CJ 4DX have teamed-up with THE ROCK FATHER Magazine for a very special Prize Pack Giveaway. The trick is, this one is limited to readers in Illinois and Wisconsin... folks within the region of the Marcus Gurnee Cinema and their 4DX screen! Learn about 4DX and enter to win below!
The eve is finally upon us. Tomorrow, after years of work, and a rollercoaster ride of ups-and-downs, PRODUCT OF HATE will release their debut album, BURIED IN VIOLENCE (iTunes | Amazon) . If you're just joining us here at THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, what you might not know is that this is not just another band I happen to be covering - they're my friends, and I've been with them for the long haul, serving as ½ of their management team, and being their music video director and editor since 2010. There's been an incredible team working with us behind-the-scenes to launch their Napalm Records debut, and this past month has been exciting. The new video for "Monster" is out - the song is in rotation on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, and it hit #10 on the iTunes Metal Hot Tracks Chart. Yesterday we got word that BURIED IN VIOLENCE was the #3 Most-Added Record for the week on the CMJ Radio Charts, and songs are starting to receieve play on a Global level. While that's all fantastic, there is much work to be done for this still-relatively unknown band, and tomorrow what really counts will take place - the album will be out, and audiences will be able to experience it and have their say. Now, if you'd like an early taste, you can stream the album in its entirety via the Napalm Records webstore! Click here to listen, and if you dig it, pick up the album on CD or Vinyl, or snag a killer bundle pack!
