In the past year or so, there's been a growing number of diecast metal figures hitting the market, each from toymakers looking to do something a bit different to stand out from the already crowded pack. Generally, when one thinks of diecast, it would be in reference to toy cars, and that category is one that the folks at Jada Toys know very well. Now they're putting their toolmaking skills to work with a new line called METALS that were once teased as being "worth the weight" - and they do have some bulk, firmly stamped as being "HEAVY." I know a thing or two about "heavy metal," so I appreciate the concept. Having tackled characters from both DC Comics and the MARVEL Universe, this summer brought a tie-in for the relaunched GHOSTBUSTERS franchise with an assortment of GHOSTBUSTERS Classics focusing on characters from Ivan Reitman's 1984 film. All four members of the crew are available, including Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore and Peter Venkman. Also issued were the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and a two-pack featuring a "slimed" version of Dr. Venkman alongside the famous green ghost, Slimer. The latter two arrived here for review in our Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father HQ™ in a care package from my friends at The Toy Insider. Let's take a look!

Review - GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL

Note: The formal conclusion of #GhostbustersWeek here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, this review comes in late thanks to an unscheduled server switch. This review does contain SPOILERS...

On Friday night, fresh back from a quick, yet eventful trip to New York City for Blogger Bash '16, I found myself back in Illinois for a long-scheduled date night with my wife. The entertainment - Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL (which I'm told is actually the film's official, full title, despite simply "Ghostbusters" being just fine). We bought our tickets a good week in advance, complete with dinner delivered to our seats at the local Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime - a truly fantastic way to enjoy any film, though particularly one as special effects-heavy as this one. Like so many others, we settled in to find out for ourselves what the outcome would be of the much talked-about and debated relaunch of one of the most beloved franchises from our own youth. It's a touchy spot when you have a film that's not purely a remake, nor a sequel - but something that needs to honor the past while opening the doors wide for the future, and that's GHOSTBUSTERS.

#GhostbustersWeek concludes on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine...

If Ray Stantz wasn't a great Ghostbustin' scientist, he could've had a fine career in automotive restoration. After all, he did a great job transforming a 1959 Miller-Meteor Cadillac Ambulance into the legendary Ecto-1! In celebration of Ray's restorative endeavors comes this shirt from TeeFury: Ray's Repairs & Resoration - "Bringing Wrecks Back from the Dead Since 1984!"

#GhostbustersWeek rolls on with one of the most interesting collectibles...

Who could've predicted that nesting dolls would become such a craze? Perhaps the Russians circa 1890, but over the past couple of years, pop culture-themed nesting dolls have become sought-after collectibles, and one company leading the charge is PPW Toys. Earlier this week we took a look at their GHOSTBUSTERS Classics PopTaters, but today we take a look at something new that they sent us for review - their GHOSTBUSTERS Nesting Dolls - a set that features all four original Ghostbusters - Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz, along with The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer!

#GhostbustersWeek continues on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine...

Are you the Keymaster? How about the Gatekeeper? Those were questions posited in 1984's GHOSTBUSTERS, and in the end, one certainty was that there was no Dana... only ZUUL. Having not yet seen 2016's GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, I don't know if Zuul appears in any form, but the spirit of the beast lives on - celebrated in pop culture, and through numerous mashup t-shirts. For today's pop-fashion feature, I'm featuring some hand-picked designs that come from a trio of my allies: TeeFury, BustedTees and Design by Humans. Check these out!

#GhostbustersWeek rolls on with a look at some new rides from Hot Wheels...

Earlier this week, we took a look at the Hot Wheels GHOSTBUSTERS Classics based on the original Ecto-1 from 1984's GHOSTBUSTERS, and the Ecto-1A from 1989's GHOSTBUSTERS II, alongside the Retro Entertainment version of the Ecto-1 as featured from 1987-1991 on THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS cartoon series. Of course, with Paul Feig's 2016 GHOSTBUSTERS hitting theaters, the folks at Mattel have given similar treatment to the two rides featured on the big screen this summer - the Ecto-1 Cadillac hearse and Ecto-2 motorcycle, presented together in a 1:64-scale two-pack (available from Amazon and my allies at Entertainment Earth).
