Affordably-priced at $1.99-$6.99 each, these make great items to add to your BTS shopping lists this month, but THE ROCK FATHER and Scholastic have teamed-up for a giveaway! One lucky reader will receive an assortment of products from the new line (styles will vary). Check out the details and enter below!

Gurnee MillsIn just a few weeks, we'll have a kindergartner here at Rock Father HQ, and that means that this Back-to-School season is pretty special for us. We're getting Addie ready for some new adventures, and as such we want her to be well-dressed and ready to Rock the Halls as she moves from Pre-K to "big girl" school this year. The big stop for our Back-to-School shopping is a familiar haunt - and this year, GURNEE MILLS and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up to showcase some of the great fashions and accessories available at the largest outlet and value shopping destination in Illinois. While I'll have some great features rolling out in the week ahead, Gurnee Mills and I want to kick-off the season in-style with something special for my local readers - a chance to win a $50 American Express Simon Gift Card in my #GurneeBTS Giveaway!

PBS KIDS VIPOn Monday, August 4, PBS KIDS will debut the Season 7 Premiere of Scholastic Media's WORDGIRL with a week of five “brain-ier” than-ever episodes – each inviting kids to join WordGirl and her friends as they fight the “cheesy” tactics and dastardly tricks of local villain Dr. Two Brains, while learning new vocabulary words all along the way! To celebrate the new season, Scholastic, THE ROCK FATHER and PBS KIDS have teamed-up for a giveaway - perfect for Back-to-School - with a prize pack that includes a book, t-shirt, temporary tattoo and a messenger bag.

I don't post a ton of deals here on THE ROCK FATHER, but once in awhile something comes along that I have to share. Now through August 31st, the crew over at Crayola Store are offering 50% Off Sitewide. That means you can stock up on some of the best supplies available (provided you have your school's shopping list already), and while I know a lot of folks are doing a sorta Back-to-School pushback this year, worry not - those are the same people that break out the stock articles about "stores setting up Christmas too early" every year. It's not a new thing. I need to shop soon, myself. I'll have a kindergartener this year, and that's still an incredible thing to me.

PBS KIDS VIPCan you believe that Back-to-School Season is already here? In just about a month, I'll officially have a kindergartener, and that sorta weirds me out. Five years of parenting already? Alas, my friends at PBS Distribution have scored a coup, partnering with Walmart for their “BACK TO SCHOOL PRESCHOOL PROMOTION,” – designed to entertain children during the summer months when school’s out, but prep them for what lies ahead. Parents can find specially marked (and priced) educational, episodic DVDs from CAILLOU, WORDGIRL, ARTHUR and DANIEL TIGER, each covering the major learning categories taught throughout the academic year such as social skills, reading, math, and science. Here's what you can look for...

Back to School: The First Days of Pre-K...

This week, Addie started Pre-K. It was our first official "Back-to-School" season, following her run in "Twos and Threes" and "Threes and Fours" programs last year. The summer "break" wasn't a huge deal since we'd kept her going in "Ducky Day Camp" in June and July, two mornings a week at the same place, with the same teachers, in the same classroom. After a month off, she returned, moving up to "Pre-K" and adding a day to her schedule. Three days a week, 2½ hours a day. It's probably a bigger deal for me than it is for her.
