It wasn't long ago that to launch a toy line, it was often supported by an animated television series. Now, as more and more kids cling to tablets and other digital devices (a plague), it's all about the webseries instead. Nearly every new toy line on-deck for 2018 will debut alongside a series of webisodes, and Alpha Group is getting into that action to launch their latest line, SCREECHERS WILD! First previewed here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine a few weeks back, the first four episodes of Screechers Wild! Season One are out, and they're pretty cool. Check 'em out in the player below, and look for these toys to hit stores in the months ahead. They've already started creeping out there!
Wicked Cool Toys is hoping that you'll be ready to "catch 'em all," and by that we mean their new line of Pokémon products, set for debut at the 2018 International Toy Fairs in London, Nuremberg and New York.
As announced last May here on The Rock Father™ Magazine, WCT was awarded the Master Toy License from The Pokémon Company International for the globally popular Pokémon brand. Their fresh assortment will include a full line of action figures, plush, roleplay items, and other toys based on the hit Pokémon animated series, expected to arrive at retail locations in worldwide markets (excluding regions in Asia) in fall 2018.
Transforming vehicles are hardly a new thing, nor are the kinds of things that said vehicles change into. From sentient humanoid robots to insects and animalistic beasts, we've seen a lot of transformations over the past 30+ years, but now there's a new entry into that realm that's putting some new twists on things. From Alpha Group (formerly Auldey Toys US) comes SCREECHERS WILD!, a new collection of vehicles that transform into creatures using "explosive 360-degree flip morphing action." They're definitely hitting on the retro marks with the launch, presenting a commercial that feels straight outta the 80s with its neon-grid patterns and action-packed visuals. They call it "fuel-injected feeding time" as the vehicles either pick up (or have launched to them) a plastic disc ("food") that activates the flip transformation. Take a look...
Early news from New York Toy Fair 2018. The Rock Father™ will be in attendance for the show, which runs February 17-20, 2018.
After being teased on social media last summer ahead of a launch in Atlanta, Dream Pets will return in 2018 as a reimagined collection of plush toys inspired by their vintage counterparts. Originally created by R. Dakin & Company in the mid 1950’s, Dream Pets were initially sawdust (!) filled plush that were used as packing materials designed to protect a shipment of toy trains. After becoming unexpectedly popular, the line expanded into proper plush with thousands of characters available. By the mid-2000s, Dream Pets had been swept up in the usual pattern of toy company mergers and acquisitions, eventually falling dormant... until now.
Last month at New York Toy Fair, countless toymakers rolled-out a preview of what's in-store for the rest of 2017 and beyond. Among the toys that we're most interested in here at Rock Father HQ are those in the new Vampirina collection by Just Play. On the surface, the ingredients for success are there in that it's the latest Disney Junior series from Doc McStuffins creator, Chris Nee, based on the hit Vampirina Ballerina books by Anne Marie Pace. For Disney, the characters have been updated with a look more in-line with what preschoolers and elementary-aged kids have come to expect. While I think that my girls are gonna be all over this, I see so much potential -- this coming from a guy that's Halloween-obsessed, and has written stories about supernatural beings a time (or two) in the past. With a storyline following an immigrant family (of vampires, no less) that has moved from Transylvania to Pennsylvania, there's some topical issues at hand (new kid in town, dealing with differences, etc.), but on the toy front, what's coming is just so cool...
It's another big year for the TRANSFORMERS franchise, with Transformers: The Last Knight heading to theaters this summer, and plenty of small-screen animated adventures yet to come. On the toy front, New York Toy Fair presented a host of new characters, but the reveals keep coming. At the Australian Toy Fair, Hasbro unleashed a first-look at their Transformers Generations Titans Return Misfire and Slugslinger, part of the Fall 2017 deluxe assortment.
