Toyography: Best Photobomb Ever? Harry Potter shows appreciation for STAR WARS' C-3PO & R2-D2

Strange things can happen when you're just minding your own business and trying to do a little "toyography" - hoping to create some stylish pictures of my children's toys. Last night, while the girls and I were playing downstairs, I decided to attempt a couple of cool-looking shots involving a couple of figures from Hasbro's STAR WARS collection - namely C-3PO and R2-D2. What happened next is that one of our dogs - the one named Harry Potter (my wife is a big J.K. Rowling fan) - decided it was time to drop himself right into the shot, rolling into frame (seen above) and standing to attention (seen below). He either ruined the shot, or made it better. Perhaps these really ARE the Droids he was looking for... or perhaps The Force was strong with him? Take a look, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Review: THE GOLDBERGS - The Complete First Season DVD

"This is how I remember the 80s - there were no parenting blogs or peanut allergies, just a whole lotta crazy."

That's the opening narration from THE GOLDBERGS, Patton Oswalt providing the off-camera voice of the adult Adam Goldberg, the youngest of the three kids at the center of ABC's breakout hit from last year. While kids of the 60s eventually had THE WONDER YEARS, and those a decade later getting THAT 70's SHOW, it's only fitting that kids like myself - the ones who grew up in "1980-something" - finally get a series that properly captures our decade. While there have been a few who've tried and failed, THE GOLDBERGS (out this week in a Complete First Season DVD set) is undoubtedly the best we've ever seen.

We're about two months out from the premiere of STAR WARS REBELS on Disney Channel, to be followed by it's regular series slot on Disney XD. I don't know about you, but with every preview released, I get more excited - it just looks better every day, and it feels like STAR WARS. Set between Episodes III and IV, STAR WARS REBELS looks to be a great new series for STAR WARS fans as we eagerly await the release of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE VII next year. SDCC: STAR WARS REBELS: A LOOK AHEAD features C-3PO, R2-D2 and more...

Fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego have no shortage of The Force this week, with some pretty incredible STAR WARS-themed offerings around every turn. The buzz is big for Disney's STAR WARS REBELS, and a new two-and-a-half minute look at the upcoming animated series has been released, and while there's a lot of goodies for new fans and old ones alike, I think we can all agree that C-3PO and R2-D2 just tie the whole Saga together. Take a look...

PLASTIC GALAXY: The History of STAR WARS Toys makes the Kessel Run to DVD...

This is one of those posts where I have to preface things with the old "if you're new to the site" bit, as simply tossing up an item with STAR WARS in the title is bound to bring a few new readers in my general direction. You see, when it comes to STAR WARS, I'm old school - a kid that was there in the beginning, amassed an incredible collection of the vintage Kenner toys, saw those get sold in the late 80s, rekindled the collecting bug in '97, turned the whole thing into an addiction, and eventually sold 90% of what I had after "kicking the habit." I've also worked on a film about STAR WARS, and did a song about the saga that popped up on TheForce.net and was later featured right here on THE ROCK FATHER. So when news landed here this morning about a documentary on STAR WARS action figures? Yeah, I'm in. PLASTIC GALAXY: The History of STAR WARS Toys is available now on DVD, and I've got a 13-minute preview for you below...

SDCC: LEGO is rolling out the AWESOME for Comic-Con with BATMAN, STAR WARS, TMNT and more...

LEGO Shop at HomeIt's that time of year again, the week when everything awesome in pop culture gets a massive spotlight shone upon it at the annual Comic-Con International in San Diego. This year, LEGO is rolling into the convention center with the big guns out - showing off incredible new offerings from their pop culture brands, including STAR WARS, DC COMICS, MARVEL, THE HOBBIT, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, MIXELS, and of course, THE LEGO MOVIE. I wish I was going this year, if only to get a look at the new LEGO Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT Trilogy, and to pick-up the Classic 1966 Batmobile set - which is real, and not one of the fan designs that keeps getting touted. Take a look at the full LEGO lineup below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER.

SDCC: PROP STORE Bringing BATMAN, BACK TO THE FUTURE, STAR WARS Props... But That's Unimportant...

This year's Comic-Con International is about to go down in San Diego next week (July 23-27), and as usual - I will not be there. In keeping with my "maybe next year" responses, I've been standing firm in that I won't do another Comic-Con until I have something that I'm personally responsible for to promote. That said, I'm covering the show virtually again, and the folks at Prop Store just hit me with details on what they'll be showing off - a collection of movie memorabilia that will be auctioned off in the UK in October of 2014. They've got some great stuff, but it's all really unimportant next to what I found on their site. They're holding back on us...

Watch: RECESS MONKEY's LEGO-loving "Brick By Brick" Music Video!

When I was interviewing fellow "Rock Fathers" for my Father's Day series this year, I discovered that LEGO is a major hobby for these musically-inclined Dads and their kids. One band, RECESS MONKEY (read their feature here) is so into LEGO that they've recorded an entire ode to the famous bricks, and the music video for "Brick by Brick" has been released today - conveniently-timed to the Blu-ray and DVD release of THE LEGO MOVIE (out now from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment). Or was it conveniently-timed with the release of the excellent new RECESS MONKEY album, WIRED, which also hit stores today? It's a brick-based conspiracy! Watch the new video below... and answer this question: What would happen if Drew Holloway borrowed an X-Wing Fighter from LEGO Luke Skywalker and flew into a galaxy far, far away? Yep, there's STAR WARS in here...

Watch: STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT - Electronic Arts Unleashes a Trailer (and a teaser) at E3 #EAStarWars

It has been a really long time since I've had the chance to get into a STAR WARS video game. There were some really good ones along the way, but I sort of moved away from it. That said, I've been hoping for a new chance to become immersed in a galaxy far, far away - and 2015's STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT just might be the game. At the in-progress E3 event, Electronic Arts unleashed the first official trailer for the game (which includes an introduction to the development team). See that trailer, along with the teaser that first appeared at last year's E3 below...
