Force Friday Countdown: THE CLONE WARS Count Dooku - 100 Days to Go...

Strange this is... that Christopher Lee, the man behind COUNT DOOKU in ATTACK OF THE CLONES and REVENGE OF THE SITH, would have his birthday just one day after his Hammer Films co-star Peter Cushing, aka GRAND MOFF TARKIN. Well, as if the Sith Lord and former Count Dracula had anything to do with it. For today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar, THE CLONE WARS Count Dooku action figure from 2008 is featured. This is one I've not had, though it's funny that his little hologram projector of Asajj Ventress looks like a popsicle or an award statue though, isn't it? And yes, Minnie thinks that Count Dooku is just dreamy...

Force Friday Countdown: The Vintage Collection Grand Moff Tarkin - 101 Days to Go...

Grand Moff Tarkin. When the first STAR WARS was released in 1977, not much was known about this member of the Imperial Forces... but it sure seemed like he had Darth Vader at his disposal. In 2015, audiences are getting to know more about Tarkin through STAR WARS REBELS, but the way the character was originally - and villainously - inhabited by actor Peter Cushing will always be remembered. This veteran actor of the Hammer Films' horror series brought his menace to a galaxy far, far away, and would've turned 102, had he lived to see today. Peter Cushing was born on May 26, 1913, and his entry into the Hasbro Force Friday Countdown Calendar celebrates THE VINTAGE COLLECTION action figure of Grand Moff Tarkin that was released in 2012. Up top, the calendar is pictured here at Rock Father HQ, flanked by his earlier, POWER OF THE FORCE figure.

Preview: Disney Infinity 3.0 STAR WARS: TWILIGHT OF THE REPUBLIC Play Set!

As we approach the halfway mark of the year, 2015 is looking like a fantastic year for media, with the best titles yet to come. When it comes to games, one of the biggest on my most-anticipated list is the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition... aka the STAR WARS edition. Today comes a fresh look at one of the three STAR WARS Play Sets to be released for the game this year, STAR WARS: TWILIGHT OF THE REPUBLIC. Developed by Ninja Theory, in partnership with Avalanche Software, the game is set to deliver "an authentic family-friendly STAR WARS game experience with an enhanced combat system."

Force Friday Countdown: Kenner STAR WARS Luke Skywalker (STAR WARS Turns 38!) - 102 Days to Go...

5-25-77: It was 38 years ago today that audiences first got to experience George Lucas' STAR WARS on the big screen. But it wasn't quite "in theaters everywhere," and in fact, was quite the opposite. Opening on fewer than 40 screens, STAR WARS (not yet known as "Episode IV" or "A NEW HOPE") was expected by many (Lucas included) to be a non-event. Soon, after audiences began lining up around the block for screenings, the phenomenon began, with some theaters showing the film continuously for over a year. As they say, "the rest is history," and what a rich history it's been, along with the infamous "Early Bird" release (an empty box) of the very first Kenner Action Figures for the 1977 holiday season. For today's special entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar, three versions of the Kenner STAR WARS Luke Skywalker figure are presented - the 1978 Luke, the 1980 "Bespin Fatigues" version, and finally, the 1983 Luke Skywalker "Jedi Knight Outfit" edition. Two of those I actually have here at Rock Father HQ...

Force Friday Countdown: STAR WARS Asajj Ventress Force FX Lightsaber - 103 Days to Go...

Now this is a toy that I never actually saw - a 2008 Force FX Lightsaber based on those wielded by ASAJJ VENTRESS - Sith apprentice to Count Dooku... who never really became a sith. Like her Master, Ventress' saber rocked a curved hilt, and she had two of them. Pair them up, and two could become one crazy weapon. Her Force FX Lightsaber is featured as today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Calendar. Could we see her return down the road... perhaps in STAR WARS REBELS?

Force Friday Countdown: 2008/09 STAR WARS Titanium Series Anakin & Sebulba Podracers - 104 Days to Go...

When it comes to STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, the Boonta Eve Classic Podracing scene was undoubtedly one of the most action-packed highlights. While I never had any of the Titanium Series Podracers (pretty recent releases from 2008/2009), I did have the 1999 Podracers for the 3¾" figures, though I sold them when I decided to focus on the Original Trilogy. Today's entry in Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar focuses on two of the Podracers - those owned by Anakin Skywalker and his rival, Sebulba. So how about a Pod Race?

THE ROCK DAUGHTERS' Netflix #StreamTeam Picks: Lalaloopsy, Star Wars, Bill Nye, Tinker Bell and more...

Netflix #StreamTeamI've said it before, and I'll say it again: My "recently-watched" and "recommended for" sections of my Netflix dashboard are completely dominated by children's programming. Yes, as a card-carrying member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I'm more than aware that I could choose "KIDS" as a sign-in option, or create a new profile just for the munchkins - but I'm never one to take the easiest path, so I roll with it. While I bring you news on Netflix content periodically throughout each month, my formal column for May falls firmly in the hands of THE ROCK DAUGHTERS, Adalyn and Finley. What are they watching (with guidance from Mommy and Daddy)? Let's just say that a few of this month's choices are very close to my heart as well...

Force Friday Countdown: Kenner STAR WARS Creature Cantina Action Playset - 105 Days to Go...

I don't know that there has been a single scene in a film outside of the STAR WARS Cantina (aside from JABBA's PALACE) that has spawned more individual action figures and hours of play. Even as a kid - in an era when STAR WARS (and action figures) was a new thing, the Cantina was legendary - despite only having seen it on the screen once or twice by the time the toys started coming out. The folks at Kenner jumped on it, releasing not one, but two playsets based on this "wretched hive of scum and villainy," both of which I had, and the second of which appears as today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar.

Force Friday Countdown: Kenner STAR WARS Slave I and BOBA FETT - 106 Days to Go...

It was 35 years ago today, May 21, 1980, that STAR WARS EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK hit theaters. Like many fans of the STAR WARS Saga, I hold EMPIRE (or, TESB) in high regard as my favorite - possibly because it's the first STAR WARS movie that I can remember seeing in the theater. That film also spawned some of my favorite toys not just from STAR WARS - but favorites, period - particularly those relating to Hoth and Bespin. From the latter, it was there that audiences first got a big-screen look at Bounty Hunter BOBA FETT, who had already made an appearance in the infamous STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, and a parade of some sort. He, along with his ship, the SLAVE I, became instant favorites for kids like me, and over the years I've owned five incarnations of his famous ship.

Force Friday Countdown: 1983 Kenner STAR WARS EWOK VILLAGE Action Playset - 107 Days to Go...

It was 33 years ago today - May 20, 1982, that principal photography was completed on STAR WARS EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI. The conclusion of George Lucas' Original Trilogy was still a year away from hitting theaters, and the folks at Kenner were hard at work prepping the toys to accompany the new adventures and new worlds that audiences would soon witness on-screen. The most notable new locale in ROTJ was the Forest Moon of Endor - home to a divisive little species known as Ewoks. Personally, I've always been a fan of the Ewoks, and despite a sometimes-fashionable public dislike that some express for the furry little ones, they did spawn two made-for-television feature films, and a Saturday Morning Cartoon series. Today's featured entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar is firmly-rooted on Endor, with the Kenner STAR WARS Ewok Village Action Playset. This is one that I never had, but it was still so cool to play with at friends' houses on occasion.
