STAR WARS HEADSPACE Merges Electronic Music with The Sounds of STAR WARS...

It was incredibly odd and surprising to receive two announcements today about albums that were "inspired by" some heavy-hitting pop culture franchises. While the first was Cybertronian in nature, the biggest surprise was the one from a galaxy far, far away...STAR WARS HEADSPACE. On February 19 digital/March 18 physical, Hollywood Records and American Recordings will release this new collection of electronic music inspired by, and featuring the sounds of the STAR WARS Saga. Executive Produced by Rick Rubin, the 15-track compilation throws down odes on everything from Ewoks to Bounty Hunters, Jabba's Palace to the Mos Eisley Cantina. Check out the tracklisting and a quartet of preview tracks below...

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - Han and Rey Giveaway!

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has been in theaters for just about two months now, and it's astonishing just how big a film it's become. Everyone knew it would be big, but just how big the record-shattering success has been, is something that would've been hard to predict. I was in Los Angeles for the launch - one of a group of 25 writers and bloggers chosen to attend the Global Press Event for the film as a guest of Disney and Lucasfilm. As my coverage rolled-out here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, there was a common thread that toys were involved - as I brought some "props" to the junket, used in conversation about one of my favorite elements of STAR WARS fandom - the toys and collectibles. Daisy Ridley played with a Rey action figure - the same one my daughters play with on a daily basis - while Harrison Ford jokingly attempted to pocket my 1980 Kenner Han Solo (Bespin Outfit) figure, all while telling us how the toys are cool, "but are meant for other people." People like me. People like YOU. With new action figures hitting stores, it's no secret that certain characters have been hard to come by, and two of the hardest have by Han Solo himself, and the Rey (Resistance Outfit) figure - the one that comes with [SPOILER ALERT!] a lightsaber... specifically, the saber once owned by both Anakin Skywalker, and his son, Luke. Just as Rey happened upon that saber in the depths of Maz' castle, I happened upon a couple of these sought-after figures, and now I'm hoping to pass them on to one of you!

What if STAR WARS Had Been a Grindhouse Film?

It was nearly a decade ago that the "Grindhouse" craze popped-up, a movement fueled by the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez GRINDHOUSE double-feature of DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR. Thing is, the look and feel that they were going for became bigger than the movie itself, leading to countless parodies, imitators, and many re-cut trailers. This week, that spirit continues, and it was Mashable that commissioned a Grindhouse-style trailer for 1977's STAR WARS. Unsurprisingly, the treatment works - presenting a look at what the film could've been, had it been done on the cheap, and with a little more revenge. Check it out...

Preview: STAR WARS REBELS - “Legends of the Lasat”

STAR WARS REBELS has reached the point of delivering some much-anticipated backstory for the crew of The Ghost, and in "Legends of the Lasat," we'll find our heroes coming face-to-face with a duo that just might be the last remaining members of the Lasat race... aside from Garazeb Orrelios. If you recall from last season, Agent Kallus was all too excited to try his hand at taking out 'Zeb, and in the time that's followed, it's become very much a special mission. Check out a preview of the next episode below, and see more photos from this episode and all of Season Two on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine Facebook page.

Preview: STAR WARS REBELS - “The Protector of Concord Dawn”

STAR WARS REBELS returned from mid-season break last week, and things are just heating up. The mid-season trailer provided a dark look at things to come, with curious connections to THE FORCE AWAKENS. One thing hinted was a bit more backstory on the Rebels' Mandalorian artist/weapons expert, Sabine Wren - and in "The Protector of Concord Dawn," we're going to get some. Check out a preview below, and see more photos from this episode and all of Season Two on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine Facebook page.

Watch: Behind-the-Scenes Breakdown of the CGI VFX of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS recently received five nominations for the 88th Academy Awards (airing live February 28 on ABC), and of them is rightfully in the category of visual FX. While the focus has been on the "real sets" and "practical effects" of the film, audiences might be surprised at just how much CGI was actually used... the key being that good CGI is undetectable. From large-scale set pieces that would've been impossible to build (crashed Star Destroyers on Jakku), to simple digital set extensions (the TIE Fighter bay - which would've been Matte Paintings in the old days), all the way to complex, fully-realized characters like Maz Kanata, the work was impressive. Now, a newly-released VFX breakdown released by I.A. Magazine reveals just how in-depth the work truly was. Take a look...

Preview: Princess Leia arrives on STAR WARS REBELS...

After winter break, STAR WARS REBELS returns to Disney XD with an all-new episode on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20 (9:00 p.m., ET/PT). In "A Princess on Lothal,"an aide to Bail Organa (Princess Leia Organa) is sent to Lothal with ships for the rebel fleet, but an Imperial lockdown forces the rebels to create a new plan to steal the vehicles. Set just three years prior to the original STAR WARS Trilogy and the events of 1977's A NEW HOPE, Leia is shown as "a young leader on her way to becoming the strong, more resolute character" that fans came to know and love - decades before her appearance as General Leia Organa in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.

Starkiller Base just Blasted Pandora - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is the Top-Grossing Domestic Film of All-Time!

STAR WARS fans, our time is now. Today, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS became the highest grossing film of all time in the domestic market, surpassing the $760.5M lifetime gross of James Cameron's AVATAR in just 20 days of release hitting the mark nearly 300 days quicker than AVATAR back in 2009.  In addition, the film crossed the $800M mark at the international box office today, in a move I like to envision being akin to THE FIRST ORDER positioning Starkiller Base to blast Pandora and the Na'vi. As one of the 25 #StarWarsEvent bloggers, being but a tiny piece of this film's success is something I will forever cherish having been a part of...
