THE ROCK FATHER: THE POP CULTURE MAGAZINE FOR FAMILIES THAT ROCK.

Holiday Wish Guide: Mr. Potato Head Pop Taters (STAR WARS, MARVEL & more) by PPW Toys...

Holiday 2014For quite awhile now, Hasbro has been releasing versions of Mr. Potato Head that have been mashed with other pop culture licenses. While many of these are full-size Mr. Potato Heads (I have an Opti-mash Prime TRANSFORMERS edition from 2007-ish) or miniature (see the Playskool Mixable, Mashable Heroes I posted about recently), now comes something that's more of a medium-sized spud, and produced by PPW Toys under license from Hasbro. Mr. Potato Head Pop Taters are a starchy entry into a collectible realm that's currently being dominated by Funko's Pop! Vinyl - similar in size, but with that classic Potato Head action that kids and grownups tend to dig. With the latest assortment including characters from THE SIMPSONS, DOCTOR WHO, MARVEL and STAR WARS (along with some NHL and MLB-inspired pieces), we received a trio for review, and I've chosen to include them in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER.

Watch Now! STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - Official Teaser

This will be a day long remembered. While I was out doing some Black Friday shopping for good (more on that later), I caught my first glimpse at the glorious teaser for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS via the reflective screen of some guy's phone. Now that I've seen it? As if I needed my arm twisted before, this lifelong STAR WARS enthusiast is completely in on that action. Take a trip back to Tatooine, fire up the speeder, crank up the sound and press play on this right now...

#CommandTheForce with Imagination and STAR WARS COMMAND #ad

THE ROCK FATHER is a paid STAR WARS #CommandTheForce Ambassador and has partnered with Hasbro and Life of Dad for this adventure. May The Force Be With You, Always.

I've been trying to Command The Force since about 1977, inspired by a galaxy far, far away...

As part of the first generation to be inspired by the vast universe that George Lucas created, STAR WARS, like The Force itself, surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds people together. As a parent, STAR WARS has also become a bond between father and child, as my wife and I raise two girls as part of the next generation. Like their father before them, these little ones are both creating and recreating some of the galaxy's most epic battles as they Command The Force with the power of their own imaginations. Play is important, and sometimes to find new ways to play, one must look to the past.

Rides: Hands-on with Mattel's STAR WARS HOT WHEELS Tusken Raider & 501st Clone Trooper

Hot Wheels logoOver the past few weeks, some vehicles inspired by a galaxy far, far away have been landing in the diecast aisles of retailers everywhere, with Walmart and Target being particularly infested by Imperial and Rebel forces. The first-ever partnership between Mattel and STAR WARS has given birth to the HOT WHEELS STAR WARS Collection, one component of which is the new line of "character cars" - vehicles that could be considered as being from an alternate reality - custom rides that take their design cues from the characters that generations have come to know and love. While the first wave has been out for a bit (and I will cover in-depth shortly), the two newest cars to hit the pegs come from the "B" assortment - the TUSKEN RAIDER and 501st CLONE TROOPER. Both of these vehicles have rolled into Rock Father HQ this past week, so let's take a look...

31 Days of Halloween: Eric Herman - MONSTER LEAGUE BASEBALL

MONSTER LEAGUE BASEBALLLast night, the San Francisco Giants captured the pennant and were declared World Series Champions, thus ending another season of Major League Baseball, and sending the Kansas City Royals back into the shadows of shame. But what if the Giants weren't giants at all, but were aliens... and not from San Francisco, but New York? This is just one of many mysteries to ponder in MONSTER LEAGUE BASEBALL, the new video from family music artist, ERIC HERMAN. But it's not a song, it's a radio play, and there may not be Giants, but there is a Giant Spider who calls upon STAR WARS' most famous Dark Lord of The Sith, DARTH VADER, to pinch-hit. Gather the kids and turn up the volume on that there computer box, and get ready to find out what would happen if Count Dracula, The Mummy, Bigfoot and The Invisible Man happened to play for Chicago. It's a perfect entry for Day 30 of 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Preview: MARVEL's 2015 STAR WARS Comics Relaunch... and more

Like many of the original STAR WARS generation, I grew up on the occasional STAR WARS Comic Book, then-published by MARVEL comics. Fast-forward about three decades, and the comics are back at MARVEL, it being a corporate sibling to Lucasfilm under the Disney umbrella, and with STAR WARS REBELS out on Disney XD and J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE VII filming now, a few new series' of comics are coming. Thanks to the new alignment, everything will fit into place nicely, with these stories being part of the official timeline, and today comes the first look - just a small tease - of what's coming...

Watch & Listen: First STAR WARS REBELS Music Video and Single Released, Droids in Distress Recap...

rebelssingleLast night, STAR WARS REBELS had it's official premiere on Disney XD after a few weeks of anticipation fueled by the one-hour launch movie, SPARK OF REBELLION (more on that here). Two episodes in and it's a hit here at Rock Father HQ, capturing yours truly in a way that THE CLONE WARS just couldn't, and captivating my little ones as their proper Jedi (or Sith?) training has begun. With the official premiere came the first appearance by some familiar droids - C-3PO and R2-D2 - and the release of the first music video and single inspired by the new show. Check out Kevin Kiner's "Rebels Theme (Flux Pavillion's The Ghost Remix)" below, along with the REBELS RECON recap of "Droids in Distress."
