The next installment of the ROCK BAND franchise is totally different, and it's arriving next month in the form of ROCK BAND BLITZ. First announced on The Rock Father this past April, the game requires no special accessories or peripherals, and is playable with your regular controller. ROCK BAND BLITZ arrives on PlayStation® Network on August 28th for $14.99 and to Xbox LIVE® Arcade on August 29th for 1200 Microsoft Points™. More tracks were just announced, and the complete listing can be found below alongside the latest developer video.

Fans of Hasbro's popular MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC (currently airing on The Hub) will have something new to enjoy come this november. At the in-progress Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, IDW Publishing and Hasbro announced that they'd be bringing the popular series into comic book form. IDW’s MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC comics will offer all-new stories featuring the beloved ponies: TWILIGHT SPARKLE, PINKIE PIE, RARITY, FLUTTERSHY, RAINBOW DASH, and APPLEJACK.

ROCK BAND has been going strong for nearly five years and continues to be a great outlet for individual or family gaming. Here's the latest in DLC news...

Harmonix today announced that tracks from The B-52’s, Staind, and Young The Giant are headed to the Rock Band™ Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii.

A few weeks back, you might recall that I mentioned KIWI CRATE as being a cool idea for busy parents. The basic overview is that for $20 a month (available monthly or by 3, 6, or 12 month subscriptions), Kiwi Crate will send you and your child a selection of crafts to do - each carefully prepared and packaged with all the materials that you need to do them. You get to spend time doing crafts and cut out running around the store looking for all the different components, which could easily add up to $20 or more anyway. Each project is chosen by a group of parents, then kid-tested before they go on-sale. Well, Kiwi Crate was kind enough to send us a "Space Exploration" crate, and here's The Rock Father experience.

We love HOT WHEELS here at Rock Father HQ. No, they're not just for boys, as my first daughter thinks that those little cars and their Matchbox counterparts are just about the best thing ever. We'll delve into that in a future blog here on The Rock Father, but for now I have a video to show you courtesy of TEAM HOT WHEELS. It's their Guinness World Record-making run at a real-life Double Loop Dare. Yes, it's HOT WHEELS in real-life, and it's fantastic. The jump took place at the 2012 X Games Los Angeles with Greg Tracy and Tanner Foust at the wheels.

It's still hard to believe that ROCK BAND has been around for five years already. Are you still playing? I'm out of the loop and out of shape, but am really tempted to boot up the XBOX 360 for some pro drums action on ROCK BAND 3. Here's the latest news...

Harmonix today announced that tracks from The All-American Rejects, Mudvayne, and Rise Against are headed to the Rock Band™ Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii.

Diamond Select Toys just informed The Rock Father that their MARVEL SELECTS IRON MAN will be arriving in-stores today. Based on the MARK VI armor seen in the AVENGERS, this new figure bears a striking likeness to star Robert Downey Jr. Am I the only person that hasn't seen the AVENGERS yet? With two little ones in the house now, my movie-watching time is pretty much gone.

Toy Manufacturing has always been a fascinating process for me, going back to that old Disney short, WHERE THE TOYS COME FROM (which we used to have on VHS). Now a new video has popped up online documenting the 4-10 month process that it takes one toy company to develop and produce a new product. Interestingly, that company is Famosa, who I've been critical of in the past for their bafflingly shoddy handling of the Caillou brand (read that story here). Regardless of my experiences thus far, this video is definitely worth watching.

The Hub's MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC has a hardcore male fanbase, that much is certain. My daughter loves it, but I still just can't get into it. I watch it with her, but me? I'm digging that new CARE BEARS series more than the Ponies, but I'm not gonna get all hardcore about it. You know who is hardcore though? ANDREW W.K. In fact, he's so into the Ponies that he's doing a motivational speech at CANTERLOT GARDENS, a full-blown MY LITTLE PONY convention. Check out the press release that just landed here at Rock Father HQ today...

Being a work-from-home Dad, I find that the 'me' time is pretty much non-existent at times. In fact, I'm making it a point to try alloting some on a schedule in the near future, something that started over the weekend when I fired up the XBOX 360 for the first time in about six months or so. I was so out of the gaming loop that it took me nearly an hour just to update all of my stuff on there. That said, I'm thinking about getting a Kinect. I wasn't fond of the controllerless idea initially, but now it's grown on me. The latest Kinect only game announced? DANCE CENTRAL 3, which families can start jamming with this Fall. Check out the announcement straight from E3...

This isn't quite breaking news as it's been out there for a few days, but I wanted to share a couple new products from NECA Toys on here that caught my eye. As a child of the 80s, ROBOCOP and GREMLINS are a pair of franchises that hold a warm place in my heart. While 'Cop will be some years off, I'm looking forward to the day that I get to share GREMLINS with my daughters for the first time. So how about some toys?
