Retro Flashback: HOT WHEELS CRACK-UPS Crash Course

Written by

I've been on a real retro-kick lately, and while my wife hasn' been too keen on my thoughts of remodeling my office space into a retro-styled world of fun, I've still been recapturing some feelings of youth as my daughter and I continue rockin' the Hot Wheels. While I've mentioned my daughter's car-obsession regularly, I've really been catching the bug again myself. Case-in-point: I stopped at Dollar Tree today and picked up a pair of Hot Wheels' "The Hot Ones" funny cars that are re-tooled versions of ones I had growing up in the 1980s. From that same era came something that popped into my head tonight that I hadn't thought of in many years... the Hot Wheels Crack-Ups Crash Course!

Technically, it's Christmas Eve here at Rock Father HQ. I wasn't planning to update here on Xmas eve, but the folks over at Diamond Select Toys just hit Facebook with something I have to share. It's no secret that I'm a HUGE fan of KNIGHT RIDER, and thanks to DVD and morning re-runs on G4, my 3½ year-old daughter is now one as well. She'll tell you all about KNIGHT RIDER, K.I.T.T., and Michael Knight. In fact, we just caught the new Lifetime Movie THE CHRISTMAS CONSULTANT starring David Hasselhoff, and she told me that "Michael Knight was decorating the Christmas tree." He sure was...

With Disney-Pixar’s hit animated feature, Monsters, Inc. back in theaters and now in 3D, Disney Publishing has released an all-new iOS App to relive the story in a fully-interactive way. The Monsters, Inc. Storybook Deluxe App is available for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and even iPad mini.

LEGO Shop at HomeIt's been buzzed about for ages, but today it's official - the folks from LEGO have fired up the DeLorean for an official BACK TO THE FUTURE LEGO set. Based on an idea sourced from their LEGO CUUSOO program, the BACK TO THE FUTURE TIME MACHINE was created by Team BTTF and is now being developed for sale. As posted in the official announcement video (see below), "this set is so new that pricing and availability information is not yet available." The follks from Team BTTF created prototypes for DeLorean Time Machine sets based on all three films in the BACK TO THE FUTURE Trilogy, along with associated minifigures. While the final production designs are not yet available to view, take a look at the impressive prototypes.

When the folks over at ERECTOR (or MECCANO as it's known elsewhere in the world) approached me about checking out their new line of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG products for possible inclusion in my 2012 Holiday Gift Guide here on The Rock Father, I was excited. What was even more exciting was that they sent us the top-of-the-line offering from their collection, the "Sonic & Knuckles Chemical Plant Racing Tracks," which is a Toys "R" Us Exclusive here in the 'States. While we received the set and prepped it for review in early November, it didn't make the cut for my gift guide

When I was at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair (#ChiTaG) at Navy Pier last month, I happened to run into the folks from SnuggleTime Toys. What they had that caught my eye was a line of "Petjamas" - which I initially thought were clothing for Pillow Pets. They are, but they're actually a little more: Petjamas are "changeable, washable covers" for Pillow Pets (and the knock-offs like the "Pillow Chums" and "Pillow Chaps" I see on kiosks in the mall). They give these popular plush pillows a fresh look, while also providing a sort of "guard" that's easy to clean.

Having just cleared five years of rocking last month, ROCK BAND continues to unite music gamers and families as the platform expands weekly with fresh tracks available for ROCK BAND BLITZ and ROCK BAND 3. On December 18, a trio of songs from ELTON JOHN hits the Rock Band Music Store. Harmonix got in touch with The Rock Father to deliver the full details, and I've got that posted for you below.

With my daughter being so into toy cars (as previously documented over at Time To Play) and loving to build things, I was pretty excited when a two-pack of XTREME CUSTOMZ by Ridemakerz arrived here at Rock Father HQ for review. Much like a model kit you can actually play with, XTREME CUSTOMZ are the latest "Ridez" from Ridemakerz - a line of customizable toy cars suggested for ages 5+. So how are they?

Back in October, I told you about the relaunch of the popular KENYA Doll line of the early 90's, and how the line was taking on a live-action counterpart with THE ROCKSTAR MADNESS BAND. Now, just in time for the holidays, KENYA dolls are hitting stores with an assortment available at Toys "R" Us and Family Dollar. To kick off the launch, a KENYA Dolls Gifting Suite was set up at the recent Soul Train Music Awards, and the folks behind the project sent some photos that landed here at Rock Father HQ this evening. Check 'em out below...

There was a time when I was always at the forefront of new technology. That was before I was a parent, and these days I'm way behind. We don't have a iPad, Kindle, or any other "tablet" device. My iPhone is an iPhone 3, which means that I can't install iOS 5.1 on it, thus making all the cool new games and Apps completely incompatible with my device. While Apple continues pumping out new versions of the products, I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on new tech on a regular basis (there are more important expenses like diapers, formula, etc). I bought my iPhone in 2010, and in 2012 it's beyond "relic" status. It's a little irritating when I have news like this to share... Disney Publishing has just released a new FINDING NEMO App called NUMBERS WITH NEMO.
