Zuru Toys is a curious outfit. On one hand, they have fantastic, original lines like their global hit Bunch O Balloons, this year's successful Smashers (now in Series Two) and one of my current Holiday Wish Guide™ picks - Rainbocorns Sequin Surprise (my girls LOVE theirs). But then they tread really close to other popular brands, releasing toys that there's no denying are at least inspired-by some heavy-hitters, perhaps stopping just short of being called something more unsavory... knockoffs. There's 5 Surprise, which as the name implies places five toys inside a round orb, no doubt taking some cues from MGA Entertainment's L.O.L. Surprise line, but packing-in toys akin to what you'd find in a 50¢ vending machine. Then you've got X-Shot, which is a straight-up competitor to Hasbro's NERF line; METAL MACHINES which is a value-priced diecast line that's clearly inspired by Mattel's Hot Wheels; Oosh which is essentially Educational Insights' Floam; you get the idea. Now they're chasing LEGO with MAX BUILD MORE, a new collection of "compatible" building bricks that's just launched as a Walmart exclusive. In a press release, Zuru touts them as "a premium quality, value-priced toy brick line -- compatible with all major toy brick brands and offering unbeatable value for budget with hundreds of high-quality bricks in each set for a fraction of the current price."
As we continue to fly through 2018, toys with a "surprise" or "reveal" are still proving to be a massive success. With more hitting the shelves each and every month, we're starting to see some new spins on things, and from Zuru Toys comes an action-packed take on the genre: Smashers. With an assortment sent here for review in The Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father™ HQ, we had a chance to go hands-on with Series One, fully embracing the tagline - "Smash the Ball & Collect 'Em All!" as each new Smash Ball was cracked open to reveal a micro-collectible figure inside. Take a look at the video below to see how the action unfolded...
Zuru's Hamsters in a House first hit the scene a couple of years ago - tiny, electronic, scurrying hamsters that roam around customizable plastic track. Now, the Hamsters are back with a second series, and it's following a popular trend: food. Hamsters in a House: Food Frenzy has launched at Target and Toys "R" Us for holiday 2017, allowing kids to expand the world of Hamtasia with a new collection of hamsters, playsets, track pieces and accessories!
When it comes to the breakout toys of 2017, Fidget Spinners are serious business. What started as one thing expanded into an entire category of Fidgets - divisive as to whether they're toys, tools or just a fad that will eventually go the way of the Pog. For now, they're still hot, and the folks at Zuru Toys have some of the highest-quality offerings out there, and they recently sent us some for review. Bringing iconic superheroes into the mix, they've licensed characters from DC Comics and Marvel, bringing them together for a colorful collection of Fidget Spinners and Fidget Cubes - the original Fidget Cubes as developed by Antsy Labs!
You may have seen me post about Zuru Toys' Bunch O Balloons earlier this year - most likely on my social networks, or when I co-hosted a twitter party for them with The Toy Insider. Realizing I hadn't given them a proper feature here on the site from my hands-on experience, it's time to throw down a few words about the water balloons that have been famously touted for the ability to "fill and tie 100 balloons in 60 seconds." Quite simply: they absolutely work.
What happens when World of Dance meets Bunch O Balloons? With Zuru Toys' easy-to-use and water balloons already being a huge hit here at Rock Father HQ, the prospect is intriguing, and the answer to the question has been revealed in a new video presenting the first-ever #SplashMob! In Los Angeles, NBC World of Dance contestant and So You Think You Can Dance winner, Fik-Shun recently surprised unsuspecting pool party goers with an epic Splash Mob performance attended by over 50 World of Dance performers, including Autumn Miller (Spring Sisters World of Dance), the Miniotics Dance Crew (America’s Got Talent Season 11), Hall of Fame Dance Team and Soul Fresh to name a few. Captured using twelve cameras and more than 5,000 self-tying Bunch O Balloon water balloons, the video evidence was released today and can be seen below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine!
