Winning Moves Games USA is rolling into the North American International Toy Fair with some new games that will be introduced February 17-20, 2018 in New York City. Among the latest offerings is the RUBIK'S TOWER puzzle. Like the original RUBIK'S CUBE, the RUBIK'S TOWER is an intriguing mechanical puzzle. Imagine two 2x2 Rubik's Cubes on top of one another that are able to rotate around a central axis and you've got the RUBIK'S TOWER.
The folks at Winning Moves Games have done a fantastic job of keeping the spirit of the classics alive with their series of retro board games - reproductions of the classic original versions that generations have grown up on. They've done Candy Land, Ouija, LIFE and many more, and one of our favorites here at Rock Father HQ is Classic Sorry! A reproduction of the version originally sold in the U.S. by Parker Bros. (now Hasbro) beginning way back in the 1930s. Winning Moves' Classic Sorry! is a featured pick in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine.
The folks at Winning Moves have really been carrying the torch for classic board games these past few years, and one of their most recent releases is also one of the most familiar. After crafting modern re-issues of several timeless favorites that we have here in the game closet at Rock Father HQ (Pop-O-Matic Trouble, Yahtzee, Sorry!, Ouija, among others), their classic edition of CANDY LAND presents the game in the form that a lot of old folks grownups like myself remember it - even going back a generation or two beyond my own, reproducing the original artwork in vibrant color, with the plastic gingerbread game pieces ready to traverse the road to "Home Sweet Home," while avoiding the perils of the Cherry Pitfall and Molasses Swamp.
Once in awhile, I get something interesting and unexpected submitted for review here at Rock Father HQ, an item unique enough that it really stands on it's own. One recent offering? SPLASH CARDS by Winning Moves Games. Now, Winning Moves is the company known for their sweet re-issues of Retro Games like Ouija, Trouble, and the classic Rubik's Cube - but Splash Cards are something new, a very simple idea that works really well. Waterproof, lightweight, floating, washable playing cards and card games, perfect for the tub or pool. The two sets they sent us: SPLASH PALS and SPLASHIMALS.
The Rubik's Cube is an undeniable classic, and a puzzle that I've owned several of over the years. For the past few, I've had the Icon Edition here in my office (I'm not good with these, so it remains unsolved) and recently we received a couple of new additions that make great stocking stuffers. The Rubik's 2x2 and the Rubik's Key Ring are both miniature cubes that make the Rubik's experience even more portable, and the 2x2 is fantastic for kids and beginners.
With only four more days to order 'till Christmas (as of this writing), a lot of folks are still seeking those last-minute gift ideas, and one sure-fire hit is some classic board games from my friends at Winning Moves Games. Having already enjoyed their reproduction of the classic Ouija Board through the Halloween Season, this winter we've been spending time with Classic Yahtzee, Classic "Popomatic" Trouble, and Classic Sorry! Officially licensed by Hasbro, these games are quality versions of the now-retro originals that many folks had as kids. In fact, the Yahtzee and Trouble are the exact versions that I had as a kid in the 1980s. The big hit here at Rock Father HQ? Oh yes, it's Trouble...
