As sales on BARBIE continue to slide, it's those monstrous teens from down the hall that continue to pick up the slack, with Mattel's MONSTER HIGH seeming to gain steam on a regular basis. While we're still in that spot where I'd figure my oldest is a tad young, she's fast-approaching the right age to go Monster-crazy, and some of her friends already have. What's new for 2014? Here's the product listing released by Mattel this week, showing off a few items that are in the doll aisles now, along with new offerings headed for stores this summer.
If you're into building sets (for kids or grownups) and haven't been paying attention to what my friends at MEGA BLOKS are doing, you need to give them a look. While we've been immersed in their sets for kids here at Rock Father HQ for awhile, I recently got into their "grownup" line of CALL OF DUTY building sets. Now, they're following-up the success of COD and HALO with a partnership with Ubisoft to produce ASSASSIN'S CREED Collector Construction Sets, this news straight out of the New York Toy Fair.
I realized something this afternoon as I browsed the press releases coming in from Toy Fair 2014: I never owned any PLAYMOBIL toys. None as a kid, and thus far, none as a parent. Not really sure why, since we've often looked at them while visiting the local Toys "R" Us, but I certainly respect what they do, and have even covered them here on the site in the past. Now comes news that the brand is celebrating it's 40th Anniversary with a massive product launch for 2014. Whether it's the PLAYMOBIL Racers (which I'm highlighting here), or your into animals, dragons, outdoor life, the big city, or mythical landscapes, PLAYMOBIL has something for almost everyone.
When I filed my report on the 2013 Chicago Toy & Game Fair back in November, one of the highlights was the Crazy Cart by RAZOR Worldwide. In fact, it was the top pick from the event, and here's what I said about it back then...
Is it too early to think about Christmas 2014? Nah... never too early! 2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the animated classic RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (first aired back in 1964), and to celebrate this milestone of Rudolph's travels to the North Pole and the Island of Misfit Toys, the folks at Silver Dolphin have announced a special pop-up book using actual images from the iconic TV special.
Since I didn't go to the recent American International Toy Fair in-person, I've digitally received a lot of official info on some great toys for 2013 that I'm still sorting through as time allows. One line I've been wanting to preview for you is the upcoming offerings from Hasbro's MY LITTLE PONY collection. Based on The Hub's hit series, MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, there's a lot of new toys on the way in addition to the Toys "R" Us Exclusives that I previously posted here on The Rock Father.
