Toy Fair New YorkFact: We cannot get enough of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES in this house. From the mainline action figures (I had to pay a stupid price for a Karai figure for Xmas through a 3rd party seller), to the half-shell heroes, the girls and I love the TMNT action - and it's play has eclipsed even what I experienced the first time around as a Turtle-loving kid nearly 30 years ago. Just-announced at Toy Fair are some new additions to the TMNT line, including several new spin-offs that focus on different types of play patterns well beyond the traditional action figures. Take a look at some early details below, and keep in mind that this is just a sprinkling of what's coming in the months ahead...

Toy FairRight now, as I sit here typing this, there is a Weebles Treehouse not more than five feet from me in this very office. It's likely the last Weebles Treehouse to be directly produced under Hasbro for their Playskool line, as we got it for Addie roughly 5-6 years ago. Now, continuing the tradition of their older lines being licensed out to smaller toymakers (Tonka, Mr. Potato Head, etc.), Weebles have moved over to Jazwares, and will be relaunched with a new look this August.

Technically, this one isn't from New York Toy Fair, but was debuted a few weeks ago at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. From Hauk Toys comes the NERF Battle Racer, produced under license from Hasbro. This is a pedal go-kart that comes complete with a wide array of places to hold all of your favorite NERF blasters and ammo (not included). The official Worldwide Launch for the NERF Battle Racer is tomorrow (February 15, 2016), with an official retail price of just $249.99. Beware that Amazon third-party sellers charging over $600 bucks for something that's in-stock now from Toys "R" Us. Check out the recently-released commercial and specs below...

One of my favorite toys of the 1980s was TEDDY RUXPIN - a toy I've often cited as a benchmark example of what a truly timeless tech toy could be. Now comes news that Wicked Cool Toys as teamed up with Alchemy II, Inc. to relaunch the Teddy Ruxpin brand and franchise globally "with toys, content and comprehensive licensed merchandising program." Set for release in 2017, this will be the fifth iteration of Teddy Ruxpin, and I personally hope that it recaptures the magic of the original Worlds of Wonder release back in 1985. While other companies have held the license and have tried their hands at bringing Ruxpin back, any push has been short-lived. Now, a decade since the last version, I have a feeling that Wicked Cool (who currently has Cabbage Patch Kids as well) could do good things with it.
