The battle to "catch 'em all!" is getting hardcore. The inaugural 2017 Pokémon North American International Championships will take place June 30–July 2 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, followed by the 2017 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California in August. It's the ultimate challenge for players of both the Pokémon Trading Card Game and video game series. Check out the details below...

If the Nintendo bug hadn't already been firmly established in my girls thanks to genetics, the trip my oldest and I took to Nintendo of America outside of Seattle last November certainly brought it to the forefront. There, we met with the experts (including President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé) to get an inside look on all the latest games for the 3DS, and what's coming soon (looking at you, Nintendo Switch). Now, despite the fact that it's one of Nintendo's biggest hits (and one I dealt with on the retail side circa '96-2000), Pokémon is still very foreign to me - as I expect it is for many parents. That's exactly why my friends at Nintendo are having a special YouTube Live session: Parents' Guide to Pokémon.

The floodgates have opened for the Nintendo Switch, and tonight, Activision Publishing, Inc., hit The Rock Father inbox with news that Skylanders® Imaginators  will be available to the next wave of gamers when the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch launches March 2017.  This March also marks the debut of some of Skylanders Imaginators’ most anticipated characters, as well as a brand-new expansion pack. Now Portal Masters all over the world can engage in new content, toys and experiences with the award-winning Skylanders Imaginators this spring! Check out more from the official announcement below...

Earlier tonight, Nintendo presented a live-streamed presentation (see it here) direct from Tokyo with all of the official specs for their new system, the Nintendo Switch. The most pressing questions were on release date and price, and those have been answered. The Switch will be made available on March 3, 2017 (pre-order bundles available via Gamestop) for an MSRP of $299.99 for the starter unit. The combination at-home/portable system comes with two Joy-Con controllers, and plenty of extra accessories will be available come launch time. While we knew that portability and multiplayer (up to eight systems connected at a time) would be a big part of Switch, we now also know that nearly 80 games are in-development. In the player below you'll get your first look at some of the game titles, including Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Bomberman R, and more...

Presented in Partnership with Nintendo of America #3DSKidForADay

Last month, our oldest daughter, Addie, accompanied me on a special trip to the North American Headquarters of Nintendo, nestled into the wooded Seattle suburb of Redmond, Washington. While Addie loved it and made memories that will last a lifetime, for me the visit rekindled some feelings from the past - a kid who grew up a Nintendo loyalist and had a few different Nintendo Christmases. The original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and it's successor, the Super NES (SNES) were both Christmas gifts... and in 1997, my future wife and I both presented each other with wrapped Nintendo 64 (N64) systems under the tree. This year, nostalgia is mighty, and as Nintendo looks ahead to the 2017 release of their new Switch gaming system, there's much fun to be had, with plenty of Nintendo goodness available right now, and perfect for last-minute gifting. And it all swings back to the beginning...

This past weekend was an interesting time for us, as I had the unique opportunity to take the oldest of The Rock Daughters™ for a visit to the North American Headquarters of Nintendo (more on that later) . While we were there, my daughter and some friends had a chance to go hands-on with some games that aren't even out yet - two of which hit the streets this Friday, the much-anticipated Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon for the Nintendo DS family of systems. Today comes the official reveal of some new Pokémon along with some Ultra Beasts and starter Z-Moves for the new games. Take a look...
