We have a few different products from Uncle Milton here at Rock Father HQ (like this cool one), and one of the more recent arrivals is currently hanging in Little Finley's bedroom. The Wild Walls Lightning Speed Grand Prix is a "light and sound experience" that features Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, Francesco Bernoulli and other characters from the Disney•Pixar film, CARS 2. As car-fixated as my youngest daughter is, you'd figure she'd like this one, and she does... but my wife's not a fan.
As The Rock Father continues to grow, I've been getting a few opportunities to contribute some virtual ink on some other fine sites around the 'net. This week, I've got a guest blog up in The Play Forum over at Time to Play Magazine. A leading destination for toy reviews and other fun stuff for Children, New York-based Time to Play invited me to join the ranks of their guest bloggers, and I was quite excited to do so.
This past Friday, the little one and I took a little road trip to Wilmot, Wisconsin. About 30 minutes from Rock Father HQ in Illinois, Wilmot is home to more than a 'Mountain,' but also a warehouse for AMERICAN GIRL, and THE MATTEL TOY STORE. I'd found the latter by accident last year while heading up to Twin Lakes for a rock show. After coming back home, I hit Google to find out just what exactly I'd seen out there on that dark, Fall night. While turning a corner, I spotted a plain white sign that read 'The Mattel Toy Store.' Sure enough, the toy maker operates their own chain of stand-alone stores in special locations around the country. A few months ago, we made the trip for the first time. On Friday, we went back.
The folks at Mattel Shop, the official online destination for purchasing Mattel Toys direct from the source, just send The Rock Father™ details on a special sale that is taking place right now. Hit this link to visit Mattel Shop, then enter code SURPRISE at check-out. You'll save 20% Off EVERYTHING, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, DC Universe, Matchbox, Disney Princesses... you name it. But, you have to act fast - this Shopping Deal for Parents runs through the end of 4/27 and then it's done.
Since I've never covered Nickelodeon's KIDS' CHOICE AWARDS before (in any of my past writing gigs), I have to make the somewhat obvious statement that it looks more like the ''Tween Choice Awards.'' We tend to be a Sprout house (though Nickjr. does have a few good shows), and I like to remember Nickelodeon as being the place for shows like PINWHEEL, MR. WIZARD'S WORLD, TODAY'S SPECIAL, and FINDERS KEEPERS. But, that was 30 years ago and Nick is a different game these days. With the announcement of the nominees for their 2012 Kids' Choice Awards last week, let's take a look at a few of the music-centric categories.
Much to the delight of children everywhere, DISNEY/PIXAR have finally released CARS 2, the sequel to the 2006 hit that features a host of colorful anthropomorphic autos on a globetrotting adventure. As goes with the territory, there's a merchandise explosion, with nearly every store bursting at the seams with licensed CARS 2 toys, clothing, games, and more. While the film features a female 'lead' of sorts with the purple car HOLLEY SHIFTWELL (voiced by Emily Mortimer) joining the story along with SALLY CARRERA (voiced by Bonnie Hunt) and LIZZIE (voiced by Katherine Helmond) from the original CARS - good luck finding any tie-in merch aimed at little girls.
