As someone who writes about toys often (both here at The Rock Father™ Magazine and also over at The Toy Insider), I see a lot of new stuff. It's also very common for toymakers to send me pitches either for feedback, or in hopes that I will review them or cover their crowdfunding efforts. Tonight marks the second time that something once pitched to me shows up on ABC's THE TOY BOX, with Emotiplush (emailed to me during a crowdfunding run in 2014) vying for the attention of the judges in hopes of being crowned champion. At the end of the 8-week series, the winning toy will be produced by Mattel and sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us. Check out all of the week three toys below...

Last week, ABC's newest unscripted series, THE TOY BOX, made it's debut, and I gave you the inside scoop (read it here). It's week two for the 8-week first season, and Friday night will see another round of hopeful toy inventors make their way in front of the mentors with hopes of making it into The Toy Box, and ultimately to the final round in which one lucky winner will see their toy produced by Mattel, and sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us. Despite the fact that most American homes have toys in them (even those that are sans-kids), the general public still seems to know fairly little about the toy industry and how it works. Each year, thousands of toys hit the market, and for every one that makes it from development to production, there's dozens more that have been pitched and failed. While most toymakers have in-house development teams, a good portion of new toys are developed by independent inventors or design studios who turn around and either sell or license their creations to one of the major companies. As a toy reviewer myself, I see a ton of toys come into The Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father HQ™ each year, and I'm always on the lookout for current and upcoming trends in play (I'm also on the Parent Advisory Panel for The Toy Insider and have served as a Play Influencer for the Chicago Toy & Game Fair). That said, when ABC invited me to take an early look at their new competition series, THE TOY BOX (premiering TONIGHT, FRIDAY, APRIL 7 from 8:00–9:00 p.m. EDT on ABC), I was intrigued - especially since I was able to see it in the screening room at Pixar Animation Studios with Jen Tan, Creative Director of Consumer Products for Pixar - a mentor on the show. The premise: Toy inventors present their concepts to a group of mentors and a panel of judges (kids!) with an ultimate goal of making it to the finals, where the winning toy will be produced by Mattel and sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us immediately following the season finale.

MARVEL's The Inhumans was once slated to be a part of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe, but then a strange thing happened... the film was off the calendar, and The Inhumans started making their way into the storyline on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now the plan has been laid out, as today it was announced that IMAX Corp., Marvel Television and Disney|ABC Television Group today have entered into an "innovative agreement to exclusively premiere the new ABC series MARVEL's The Inhumans in IMAX commercial theatres." This marks the first time a live-action television series has debuted in this manner - and it's a series that little is known about just yet.

And so it begins again... 

ABC just announced their cast for Season 23 of DANCING WITH THE STARS, and as usual, fans are taking to twitter to air their excitement or concern by tweeting @DWTS. Thing is, on twitter that means they're reaching the original DWTS... or at least a DWTS that staked (like a vampire) the acronym before "Dancing," and that's DEATH WALKS THE STREETS. If you haven't been playing along for the past 11 or so years, the #OriginalDWTS is a genre-bending transmedia property created by someone very familiar to readers of this site... yours truly. Curious?

This morning, my friends over at ABC made their official cast announcement for the 22nd Season of DANCING WITH THE STARS, ushering in a new round of fan excitement... and opening a fresh batch of weirdness for me. You see, as much as I love ABC (and do some cool stuff with them from time-to-time), when it comes to certain social aspects of "Dancing," there's been some confusion that dates back to the MySpace heyday of 2005, and continues now on Twitter... because I own the handle @DWTS. Indeed, if you tweet @DWTS, there's a solid chance that The Rock Father will be answering, as 'DWTS' is also the acronym for DEATH WALKS THE STREETS, the transmedia property that I created originally as a screenplay back in 2004, and continue rolling with, making plans to eventually launch further comic adventures somewhere down the line (you can get two issues of the DWTS Comic Books FREE from Noisetrade). So you want to find out who's dancing when DANCING WITH THE STARS returns live MONDAY, MARCH 21 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT)?
