I've written quite a bit about Chicago's ELLA JENKINS over these past few years, most recently giving some virtual ink to her January release, 123s & ABCs. Now, on August 5, Jenkins will bring forth MORE MULTICULTURAL CHILDREN'S SONGS, a sequel to her best-selling 1995 album, MULTICULTURAL CHILDREN'S SONGS. Smithsonian Folkways will release the album - her 40th title spanning a 57 year career, and coming to retail just a day prior to her 90th birthday.

Review: ELLA JENKINS - "123s & ABCs"

It's incredible to think of any musical artist being able to release a staggering 34 full-length albums over the course of their career, but in an incredible 56 years of recording for Smithsonian Folkways, that's exactly the number that ELLA JENKINS recently reached, with the release of "123s & ABCs."

Chicago's own "First Lady of Children's Music" is releasing her 34th album for Smithsonian Folkways later this month, when 123s and ABCs hits the streets. The 16-song collection features some of Jenkins' best music for helping kids learn counting and the alphabet, with songs presented in four languages - English, Spanish, Swahili, and Yiddish. Check out the full tracklisting below...

The Fifth Annual Kindiefest will be taking place in Brooklyn next month (April 26-28), for the first time happening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), who will be co-presenting the Family Music Conference and Festival in their brand-new, state-of-the-art music venue - The BAM Fisher (321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, NY 11217). As always, Kindiefest will combine an industry networking conference with a public fest in which kids and grownups alike can sample some great music.

In these winter months, it's often hard to get kids moving enough to get their recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day. In fact, First Lady Michelle Obama is big on that recommendation as a part of her "Let's Move" program to combat childhood obesity. One way to get kids moving is with a fitting soundtrack, and GET MOVING WITH ELLA JENKINS presents the little ones with a full hour of activity songs perfect for doing just that!
