For a character that first hit screens more than 40 years ago, it's interesting to note just how hard it is to get the look of Chewbacca just right. Licensees have now had four decades to work on their Chewie products, yet in certain categories, nailing the proper look of the STAR WARS galaxy's most famous Wookiee is still a real problem. In fairness, any character or creature with full-body hair is challenging to pull-off, but I'd argue that the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon deserves a lot more care than he gets. That said, here's a look at an assortment of different "Chewbacca" costumes that are available for purchase right now. From 1977's STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE to 2017's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, Chewie's had a variety of looks (and we may see a different one in Ron Howard's Untitled Han Solo Movie next year), but most of these look nothing like the Porg's beloved friend.

Get Ready to Play with ABC's THE TOY BOX Season Two!

Written by

This past spring, I had the opportunity to peek behind the curtain of ABC's latest competition series, THE TOY BOX. Now, the series is back for a second season in which a new crop of inventors will present their toy concepts to a panel of judges in hopes of making it to the end, in which the grand prize winner will see their toy manufactured by Mattel, to be sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us. For Season Two, THE TOY BOX has been retooled - gone are the "industry mentors," and instead of facing just one panel of kid judges, contestants will face a rotating panel of five kids. The only returning judge from Season One is apparently, Noah Ritter. Like the first season, the episodes will be airing out of numeric order as they work toward the endgame, but for the purpose of my previews, I'll be labeling them by week. Curious what's on-deck for the first two episodes? Here's a preview...

RICK AND MORTY is one of those shows (like GAME OF THRONES, BREAKING BAD, etc.) that people keep telling me that I have to see, yet I just haven't caught an episode of. I know it's big, and I've seen the toys start making their way out to stores, but I'd never seen any of it - not even a preview - until this hit my inbox. I've written much about metal covers of popular themes in the past, but they're generally not officially-sanctioned. This one is. Check out the metal version of the RICK AND MORTY theme song below, created by Jason Suecof from Time + Space and Alex Rudinger. I dig it...

Want to Explore the Origin of Scary Clowns? Sure You Do!

Written by

Who was "the Kanye West of clowning?" That's just one of the questions answered in the first episode of PBS Digital Studios' Origin of Everything - The True Origin of Killer Clowns. With a modern reimagining of Stephen King's IT scaring up big box office, Yale Doctoral Candidate, Danielle Bainbridge looks beyond Pennywise and back through a rich history of clowning that's served up legendary scares from Killer Clowns from Outer Space to American Horror Story and Bozo's Circus. Okay, maybe not Bozo, but Cookie and Wizzo always seemed "off" to me.

This is exactly the news I was hoping for. After re-launching STAR WARS with the start of a sequel trilogy that began with his 2015 film, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, J.J. Abrams is returning to close-out the trilogy. This morning it was announced by Lucasfilm that Abrams is on-board to write and direct the currently-untitled STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

It was this summer that my love for THE LION KING was reignited during my visit to the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. It wasn't that I hadn't been enjoying it on occasion with my girls over the past few years - quite the contrary, especially given that Disney Junior's THE LION GUARD has been in the regular viewing mix for quite awhile. I think what I'd forgotten was how magical it was at the time of its first release - the summer after I graduated high school, and a film that was really one of those "lightning in a bottle" moments. The combination of attending a celebration of the film along with being in the room for the debut of test footage from Jon Favreau's 2019 live-action version of THE LION KING just brought goosebumps. Now, with film having been reissued as part of The Walt Disney Signature Collection as "The Circle of Life Edition" (available on Digital HD and Blu-ray Combo Pack), it's prime time for audiences to experience the film again, or to introduce it to their children for the very first time.

Lucasfilm's Star Wars Rebels is a unique thing for our family when it comes to the grand scheme of Star Wars storytelling. Despite countless spin-offs in every possible medium, Rebels stands right alongside the cinematic feature films in terms of both importance and enjoyment, and for our children I expect it will remain just as memorable for them as the Original Trilogy has been for all of us. With Season Four set to debut on Disney XD this fall, the just-released Star Wars Rebels - Complete Season Three Blu-ray set is the perfect way to re-live the latest run before the series returns for its final season.
