If you're reading this, it is my duty to make it known that you are reading a historic blog. Despite it being a common feature throughout the vast realm of cyberspace, I have never done a "Throwback Thursday." This is my first... and it's about that time when I went to PRISON. Actually, if we're being honest, I should admit that I've been to prison more than once.
Here we are, a week into 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father, and today we've got something special... a pumpkin-y premiere from Chicago's finest purveyors of Kindie Punk Rock, THE BOOGERS. Streaming below is "I'm a Jack-O-Lantern," a brand-new Halloween anthem for 2013, that makes the perfect soundtrack for your pumpkin-carving this month. Ghosts... Ghouls... Witches... they'll run a mile when they see the Jack-O-Lantern's scary smile...
"You dress like you're 15."
The first time I recall hearing my wife say that, I'd just purchased a pair of Ken Block signature edition DC Shoes from PacSun (pictured below), and a long, green wallet chain from Hot Topic. That was probably about two years ago. I'll be 37 in just a few weeks, and I still have the shoes, but the wallet chain is a memory. If my wife has a gripe with me, it's definitely about the way I dress. She'd like me to class it up a bit, and there's a few times I've tried.
Earlier this month, the residents of SESAME STREET kicked off their 44th season on PBS KIDS, welcoming a new neighbor to the 'Street with the addition of 'Mando (who I met and did a video with - along with Rosita - earlier this year). This week, some familiar faces stopped by LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, where they joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a new version of the iconic "Sesame Street" Theme Song... with classroom instruments. Watch the video below to see just how hard BIG BIRD, MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS, COUNT VON COUNT, ELMO, ABBY CADABBY, GROVER, MURRAY, GROVER, ZOE, and COOKIE MONSTER rock out with the LATE NIGHT crew. It's probably the best thing you'll see all week.
Back in April, as both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox got their seasons underway, I blogged about baseball here on The Rock Father. In that entry, I affirmed my allegiance to the South Side ('Sox), while noting that I'd never seen a game on the North (Cubs). I also promised my oldest daughter that we would one day see a game in a place like we saw on tv, and this past Sunday, that promise became a reality. It was a "first" for the entire family... my daughters' first ballgame, and for my wife and I, our first game in Wrigley Field. We'd taken the kids to see the Chicago Cubs.
This week, Addie started Pre-K. It was our first official "Back-to-School" season, following her run in "Twos and Threes" and "Threes and Fours" programs last year. The summer "break" wasn't a huge deal since we'd kept her going in "Ducky Day Camp" in June and July, two mornings a week at the same place, with the same teachers, in the same classroom. After a month off, she returned, moving up to "Pre-K" and adding a day to her schedule. Three days a week, 2½ hours a day. It's probably a bigger deal for me than it is for her.
