#TRANSFORMERSweekI was around eight years old when TRANSFORMERS (aka "Generation One" or G1) first hit the scene in 1984. I can't recall which came first for me - the cartoon or the Hasbro Toys, but they went hand-in-hand, and I have vivid memories of watching the show and then bringing the adventure into my home with the action figures and vehicles, many of which have special stories of their own, like when I recalled getting JetFire back in this feature from last year. They were truly "More Than Meets the Eye," and it's been a joy to share their stories with my own kids. One of the unique things about TRANSFORMERS is how it's evolved to reach children of all ages, starting with the preschool-aimed TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS, which airs regularly on the Hub Network, and into the realm of TRANSFORMERS PRIME, BEAST HUNTERS and, of course, the live-action films from Michael Bay. One place to catch a lot of those shows at any time is Netflix (yes, I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team - "disclosure" and all, plus I'm actually their June Member of the Month!), so for my June Stream Team Spotlight, I'm highlighting all the Autobot Vs. Decepticon action that Netflix currently has to offer!

As a kid that grew up with Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS and was there in 1984 when it all began, I don't recall Bumblebee being a big deal. Back then, he was a HERBIE-like Volkswagen Beetle - one of the smallest Autobots of the bunch, and although a fun toy, it was characters like Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus and Jetfire that really grabbed me. Fast-forward thirty years, and Bumblebee is big deal - a fan-favorite for a whole new generation of kids (and some grownups, too) who dig the lighthearted "scout" 'bot in his current form - that of a Chevrolet Camaro (in the live-action films), or the similarly-designed, though completely fictional, "Urbana 500" as he appeared in the recent series, TRANSFORMERS PRIME.

First a story about G.I Joe, and now I get to write about TRANSFORMERS in the same day? Indeed, that's the case as Hasbro has announced that the focus for TRANSFORMERS in 2013 will be TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS. With little ones here in The Rock Father house, we're more in RESCUE BOTS mode, but Daddy still checks out the bigger bots on frequent occasion. In fact, I actually own a one-of-a-kind Optimus Prime that came to me direct from the Hasbro Design Team back in '07 (for a little something I did for G4). As for the new BEAST HUNTERS, what are they all about? Read on...
