Despite occasionally writing about the franchise when something newsworthy has happened over the past few years, I didn't realize how powerful R.L. Stine's Goosebumps was until fairly recently. With our girls now 6 & 9, they've discovered the spooky world of Goosebumps, first through the 1990s television series which has been available on Netflix. But earlier this year, a neighbor started placing some of the original, 400-million-selling books from Scholastic into the Simplay3 Neighborhood Sharing Library that I installed in our yard last year. Goosebumps became a staple of the heavy reading rotation, and eventually they checked out the 2015 film that was inspired by that world. All that said, the timing of Sony Pictures' Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween couldn't be better, and the fact that I was invited to host a Chicago-area advance screening of the film was absolutely perfect... a first-hand example of just how powerful the Goosebumps franchise really is. And Haunted Halloween? It's primed to be a perennial favorite - a new Halloween classic that's going to surprise a lot of people.

Sure, the calendar that most people use might say its summer, but the official Rock Father HQ seasonal calendar (noted in detail here) says that Fall/Autumn will run August 15-October 31 with the overlapping Halloween Season taking place September 15-October 31... so change is coming. Fall and Halloween are my favorites, so when the trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (in theaters October 12) hit my inbox while I was traveling last week, I had to take note. I'm a bit belated on sharing this, but it's filling me with seasonal warmth on this summer morning - not the kind brought on by the heat of the sun, but that of pumpkin spice. Take a look...

'Tis the Season to Be Spooky, and from R.L. Stine, the creator of GOOSEBUMPS, comes a new movie that's perfect for the whole family this Halloween - MONSTERVILLE: CABINET OF SOULS. Starring Dove Cameron of Disney Channel's LIV & MADDIE (check out my recent set visit right here) and Disney DESCENDANTS, along with Katherine McNamara (MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS), Ryan McCarten (LIV AND MADDIE), and Tiffany Espensen (KIRBY BUCKETS), MONSTERVILLE finds a young crew facing off against the evil Dr. Hysteria to stop his soul-collecting operation dead in its tracks! MONSTERVILLE: CABINET OF SOULS lands firmly in this year's 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, and I've teamed-up with my friends at Universal Studios Home Entertainment to get five (5) lucky readers hooked up with MONSTERVILLE on DVD!

It's a busy summer for Dove Cameron. The star of Disney Channel's LIV AND MADDIE (which I recently visited the set of) and upcoming Disney DESCENDANTS (out July 31) has another new film in the pipeline, and it's out September 29th from Universal 1440. R.L. STINE's MONSTERVILLE: CABINET OF SOULS arrives just in-time for Halloween (I'm always looking for new seasonal fare), with Cameron in a supernatural adventure that also stars Katherine McNamara (MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS), Ryan McCarten (LIV AND MADDIE), and Tiffany Espensen (KIRBY BUCKETS). When it comes to "family" entertainment, the 90s are sort of a lost decade for me. Growing up in the 80s and then working in the entertainment world in the 00's - the 90s were the decade where I was growing up, rocking out, and in the end - getting married. A ton of really popular stuff came out that I totally missed (lots of Nickelodeon/Disney Channel shows for sure), and one thing I totally would've been into had I been born a bit later is R.L. Stine's GOOSEBUMPS series. Being more than a little into monsters and such, seeing Jack Black jump into the role of an author with potential to unleash werewolves and evil snowmen into the real world is something that's pretty intriguing. Check out the trailer for SONY/Columbia Pictures GOOSEBUMPS below...
