Holiday 2014For the past couple of years, DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD has been such a fixture here at Rock Father HQ that the characters of the Neighborhood of Make Believe feel like family. Having written about The Fred Rogers Company-produced series even pre-dating my own work with the PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) team, there's an inexplicable feeling of warmth and goodness that occurs just from hearing the music alone. When the JAKKS Pacific toy line was first announced, the girls and I were excited to get our hands on some, and in the year or so that's passed, we've bought some and we've received some along the way. Heck, I've even taken Daniel with as a traveling companion, and since the girls play with their figures almost daily (they're regularly intermixed with a core group of toys here), I'm including the entire DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD line in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER.

The second season of POPPY CAT kicks-off tomorrow on Sprout, and with a seasonally-spiced theme, a preview of "Halloween Woods" lands here on THE ROCK FATHER for Day 24 of my annual 31 Days of Halloween. We checked out an advance of the episode this week (it's super-cute), and you could say that it was sort of inspiring for us, as the girls requested that Daddy draw them a Poppy Cat... so I did, entirely out of crayon...

We just caught what I believe is the second Halloween episode of Disney Junior's SOFIA THE FIRST this past Friday, and if your little ones want to keep that pumpkin-y adventure going like mine do, there's a book available to do just that. SOFIA THE FIRST: THE HALLOWEEN BALL is a 24-page paperback from Disney Press that includes a set of sparkly stickers and can be found for under five bucks at retailers everywhere. I picked up a copy for my little Princesses, and there's a good chance that you might want to, too!

PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)Our love of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD has been well-documented here on THE ROCK FATHER, pre-dating my work with the PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) program. From the fantastic show from The Fred Rogers Company, to the wonderful toys by JAKKS Pacific and the infectiously-good soundtracks, the adventures of Daniel and his friends have been a daily part of our lives for a few years now. For 31 Days of Halloween comes a new book from Simon & Schuster's Simon Spotlight collection - HAPPY HALLOWEEN, DANIEL TIGER! Written by series creator Angela C. Santomero, this 14-page "Lift the Flap" Board Book is perfect for youngsters preschool to second grade, bringing some pumpkin-spiced charm to the Neighborhood of Make Believe...

When the UK-produced POPPY CAT first arrived Stateside via Sprout in 2011, we were just two years into our parenting adventure, and only months away from beginning round two. Now, ahead of it's second season premiere, my girls are two and five - the perfect ages to enjoy the series which celebrates something that I mention often here on THE ROCK FATHER: imaginative play.
