All month, my friends at Sprout have been gearing up for Halloween with their ongoing Sprout Halloween Parade, in which kids can march in place in their Halloween costumes and use the "Send to Sprout" App to submit their video to become a part of the user-generated parade. Now, we're just a week away from when the real treats start rolling on October 28, and the Sunshine Barn takes on a Halloween theme for the Sunny Side Up Show (airing live, 9am-noon ET) and the 24-hour preschool network starts airing some terrific Halloween content. Here's a preview...

When Mattel announced earlier this year that their Fisher-Price division would be giving the iconic Little People a makeover, I wondered what would happen with the seasonal exclusive toys that they'd been known to offer. The answer is that they've been revamped, with each scene now including the updated figures. I'm kicking off The Rock Father's 31 Days of Halloween 2013 with some new toys that feature a Hayride, a Pumpkin Party, and a Trick-or-Treat Surprise. I figure if you want these toys for your little one(s), you'll need to get them ordered right away.

SproutDo you have a kind kid at your house? If so, you can help Chica and my friends at Sprout in their goal to reach 1 Million Acts of Kindness! With just 408,454 acts reported as of this writing, time is running out as the clock ticks down to the September 30th goal. Additionally, your child could be Sprout's Kindest Kid. Families are asked to provide a photo and short description at this location explaining how their child helped the family, a friend, the community, an animal, the Earth or any other positive everyday contributions.

Back to School: The First Days of Pre-K...

This week, Addie started Pre-K. It was our first official "Back-to-School" season, following her run in "Twos and Threes" and "Threes and Fours" programs last year. The summer "break" wasn't a huge deal since we'd kept her going in "Ducky Day Camp" in June and July, two mornings a week at the same place, with the same teachers, in the same classroom. After a month off, she returned, moving up to "Pre-K" and adding a day to her schedule. Three days a week, 2½ hours a day. It's probably a bigger deal for me than it is for her.
