In a season where new "Halloween specials" have been light, there's a real classic vibe that comes with CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST. Making it's television debut this Monday (10/28) on PBS KIDS (check your local listings), this first-ever pumpkin-spiced tale for the little monkey has a warmth that I haven't really gotten from recent seasonal fare. Seeing my oldest curl-up on the couch with her Curious George mask as we took in a sneak-preview here at Rock Father HQ, it reminded me of those nights as a kid in the 1980s where I'd do the same while eagerly-awaiting IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN. With that, CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST secures its place as part of 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father.
Today is the day... after months of waiting, PEG + CAT will make it's debut on PBS KIDS (check your local listings for times)! The latest offering from The Fred Rogers Company seeks to bring young viewers a new way to experience math through Peg and Cat’s relatable, and often hilarious, adventures. Each PEG + CAT episode features original songs and fascinating stories in which Peg and Cat encounter a problem that requires them to use math and problem-solving skills in order to move forward. To bring the experience beyond the television, PBS KIDS has launched several interactive PEG + CAT features, including the rockin' PEG + CAT BIG GIG APP, 11 online games, and numerous offline activities. I've got details on all of them, right here on The Rock Father!
This week, the folks at PBS Distribution brought forth a new collection of the PBS KIDS hit WILD KRATTS, with WILD KRATTS: WILDEST ANIMAL ADVENTURES on DVD. The 5-disc set features 555 minutes of adventure spread over 20 full episodes, each featuring animated versions of Martin and Chris Kratt. To celebrate the release, The Rock Father is going to get one lucky reader hooked-up with the new box set for their little one(s). Details below!
Ever since I attended the PBS Annual Meeting in Miami this past May, I've been excited about the launch of PEG + CAT (premiering October 7 on PBS KIDS). A rarity in educational programming, it's a math show... with a female lead... that happens to play music. That's a trifecta of awesome for this music-slinging, daughter-raising Dad that was never too fond of math. I want my girls to dig the numeric subject, and PEG + CAT appears to be a piece to that puzzle. One early taste of that world is a book called THE CHICKEN PROBLEM (Random House) by series creators Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson, and to celebrate the show, PBS KIDS and The Rock Father are giving YOU a chance to win a copy for your little one(s)... along with some cool, PBS KIDS pencils!
On September 16, SESAME STREET will kick-off it's 44th Season on PBS KIDS with a host of new segments, one of which is COOKIE'S CRUMBY PICTURES - with each five minute piece presenting a lesson in self-regulation (a large part of this year's curriculum) with COOKIE MONSTER. While we've got just under two weeks until the Season Premiere, Cookie Monster just got an early lesson from actor TOM HIDDLESTON. Check it out...
I really can't say enough good things about DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. A year after making it's debut on PBS KIDS, the series based on the legacy of MR. ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD is becoming a phenomenon, and if you have a preschooler at home and aren't watching this... well, you should be. We just had a little sneak-preview of the upcoming Neighbor Day episode (airing September 2 - check out the full details) here at Rock Father HQ, and Daniel Tiger fans young and old are gonna dig it. With the new line of Daniel Tiger toys hitting Toys R Us stores right now, there's a digital element as well, and today comes the release of DANIEL TIGER'S DAY & NIGHT, a new App for iOS (coming soon to Android) that follows the successful PLAY AT HOME App.
