PBS KIDS VIPDid Halloween exist in the prehistoric days? While some would say "of course not, Rock Father!" I will say, "absolutely!" DINOSAUR TRAIN: BUDDY'S HALLOWEEN ADVENTURE proves that, bringing four episodes of The Jim Henson Company's hit PBS KIDS series home in one spook-tacular collection that we've been enjoying these past few weeks here at Rock Father HQ. Why do preschoolers find such fascination in both dinosaurs and trains? I don't think that's ever been scientifically-explored, but combining both has been a big win, and adding the year's best holiday into the mix pushes it right to the top for a spot in this year's 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER.

PBS KIDS VIPAt this point it's hard to believe that just five years ago, I'd never heard of CAILLOU. It was that one day when we were still living in an apartment with newborn Addie when we happened to come across the show on Sprout - her little baby eyes immediately drawn to the little guy. Like the "Charlie Brown" of a new generation, CAILLOU would soon be revealed to be a very divisive little guy, one as equally loved as he is loathed (a very trendy bandwagon to hop), but a fantastic, and educational show based on the series of books by Chouette Publishing. When our family moved and established what would become known as Rock Father HQ, CAILLOU became an even more regular thing, watched daily on PBS KIDS (and Sprout), and then again experienced through the books, toys and puzzles. Now, in celebration of the character's 25th Anniversary, PBS Distribution and DHX Media have released a special-edition of CAILLOU'S FAMILY FAVORITES, a DVD of classic episodes paired with a double-length soft-cover companion book housed in an attractive, flip-cover box (perfect for the upcoming Holiday gift season) with a foil-embossed logo.

2014 Holiday Gift GuideIf you've been following my adventures for a bit, then you've probably seen WILD KRATTS featured here on THE ROCK FATHER more than a few times over these last couple of years. As a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent), I've often showcased the educational adventures of the Kratt brothers - Chris and Martin - as they teach kids about animals and the scientific aspects of the environments in which they inhabit. "Adventure" is key here, and that's something that the folks at Wicked Cool Toys have captured in their new line of WILD KRATTS toys, a few of which I'm showcasing in my 2014 Holiday Gift Guide - the WILD KRATTS Figures and Vehicles.

PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)Our love of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD has been well-documented here on THE ROCK FATHER, pre-dating my work with the PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) program. From the fantastic show from The Fred Rogers Company, to the wonderful toys by JAKKS Pacific and the infectiously-good soundtracks, the adventures of Daniel and his friends have been a daily part of our lives for a few years now. For 31 Days of Halloween comes a new book from Simon & Schuster's Simon Spotlight collection - HAPPY HALLOWEEN, DANIEL TIGER! Written by series creator Angela C. Santomero, this 14-page "Lift the Flap" Board Book is perfect for youngsters preschool to second grade, bringing some pumpkin-spiced charm to the Neighborhood of Make Believe...
