Today, The Jim Henson Company celebrates its 60th Anniversary on what would've been the 79th birthday of its legendary founder. With a legacy that now spans four generations of fans, The Jim Henson Company continues to produce excellent entertainment for children and families through programs like DOOZERS (based on the world established in FRAGGLE ROCK), DINOSAUR TRAIN, SID THE SCIENCE KID, PAJANIMALS and more - all under the leadership of his children, Lisa and Brian. While no longer produced under The Jim Henson Company, his iconic characters such as The Sesame Street Muppets and the familiar cast of THE MUPPET SHOW live on as well under Sesame Workshop and Disney. In honor of this legacy, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine and The Jim Henson Company are giving readers a chance to win a fantastic assortment of Fall and Halloween-themed items from some of Henson's current properties. One (1) winner will receive four (4) DVDs, two (2) Ready-to-Read DOOZERS books, and a hardcover from the ENCHANTED SISTERS!

PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)While The Rock Daughters won't officially be Back-to-School until the end of the month, we've definitely reached summer's last hurrah, and for many, summer's already done and the school bell has officially rung. To close things out, PBS KIDS is serving up a Summer Safari Movie Event with the television premiere of CURIOUS GEORGE 3: BACK TO THE JUNGLE, airing Monday, August 17th (check local listings for times). With Back-to-School on the brain, PBS KIDS is also continuing its partnership with Whole Foods Market for a new collection of Back-to-School items that are made with organic cotton, recycled paper or other responsible materials - and these school supplies get extra credit: 100% of PBS KIDS’ net proceeds from the line will support PBS KIDS educational programming, dedicated to helping all children succeed in school and in life. Whole Foods Market will donate a percentage of total sales to their Whole Kids Foundation as well. So how about a preview of CURIOUS GEORGE 3: BACK TO THE JUNGLE?

In my earliest days of being a parent, I had some interesting questions that kept coming to mind as I jumped deep into the world of children's entertainment. Several of those involved BOB THE BUILDER - is he licensed? Does he have insurance? Are he and his crew considered Union Labor? Did he go to some sort of trade school? How long has he been building and/or fixing? None of those things mattered, or were answered, but they were all things that have crossed the mind of a 30-something man while watching episodes of the British import on PBS Kids and Sprout. Back in March, I found out that Bob and the crew were getting a major overhaul, and I posted on my Facebook page about it - a discussion that had a lot of parents chiming in. Now, BOB THE BUILDER is ready to rock, with new episodes about to launch in the UK on September 1 (on Channel 5's Milkshake), and later this Fall on PBS KIDS here in the U.S. A few months back, I said I didn't know how I felt about the revamp, but now I have to say the whole crew is looking pretty good...
