With New York Toy Fair behind us, we now have a pretty good idea of what lies in store for the rest of 2017 when it comes to toys and collectibles. But what have pop culture collectors been buying recently? My allies and affiliates at Entertainment Earth have some data to share, taking a look at sales figures from mid-October 2016 to mid-January 2017. The Force is still strong, but there's "significant consumer interest" rising for items based on the Netflix Original Series, Stranger Things, and Marvel's forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Check out the details below...

Netflix Stream TeamIf you happened to catch the SAG Awards, then you already know that the big winner was one that many rooted for, but few expected to clean house - Stranger Things. The Netflix Original Series scored big with audiences last year, coming seemingly out-of-nowhere, delighting audiences by bringing back the classic storytelling of the 1980s, complete with a period setting to perfectly capture that vibe. As families have gathered to experience a modern classic that has in many ways opened the door to share the films that inspired it (E.T., for example), it's interesting to see how important the 70s & 80s are to the viewers of today. One Day at a Time was inspired by the 1975-84 series of the same name; Fuller House is huge; but that's just scratching the surface. Here's some things you need to stream right now...

Netflix Stream TeamBB2's The Office was a global phenomenon, inspiring the U.S. series of the same name, and making Ricky Gervais a household name. Now, he's back in his Office role as David Brent, 12-years on from the "documentary" about his former life, rejoined by a film crew to capture his new role as a traveling salesman attempting rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour for his band, Foregone Conclusion. David Brent: Life on the Road (released in the UK last summer) comes to Netflix on February 10th,  and the spotlight is finally on Brent, the self-proclaimed "friend first, boss second. Probably an entertainer third." Check out a preview...

Netflix Stream TeamVoltron is an important character around these parts, and after visiting DreamWorks Animation last year for a pre-debut first-hand look at what they were cooking up for Voltron: Legendary Defender, I was hooked on the new series. Now, DreamWorks Animation Television and Netflix have unleashed the proper trailer for season two, which begins streaming new episodes on Netflix on January 20th, picking up right where the cliffhanger of season one left off...

Netflix: 10 Things to Stream During Winter Break

Netflix Stream TeamThe holiday season is almost behind us, but as we overlap the end of one year and the beginning of another, chances are the kids are on winter break and the drone of "I'm bored" just may be lurking.  It may not be lurking just for the kids, but also for the adults that care for them, and that's why when the time comes to settle in for some visual entertainment, one need look no further than Netflix. As part of my gig for the Netflix #StreamTeam, I'm always on the lookout for some interesting things - not just the obvious, but some "Rock Father Picks" that might be hidden a little deeper in the Netflix library. Here's a little of everything - perfect for streaming on winter break!

Netflix Stream TeamAs we get ready to turn the page on November and go full-steam-ahead into December, time spent with family will come into clearer focus as the year comes to a close. For many, spending time with family also means catching up with some favorite fictional families, and this past month brought the long-awaited return of the Gilmores, who came to Netflix with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In the interest of full-disclosure, despite my gig as a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I've never seen Gilmore Girls, though in one of my past lives, Alexis Bledel's name was at one time thrown around in casting meetings for something I'd written that didn't end up being produced. Weird how things work out. But as fictional families go, one that I'm particularly excited about is back again for new adventures on December 9 when Season Two of Fuller House begins streaming. But have you ever noticed that most on-screen families are comfortingly unusual, and possibly less functionally-dysfunctional than the reality that they mirror? Here's a few interesting family choices that await you on Netflix.... and many of them will now be available whenever you want, online and off...
