Netflix Stream TeamLast month, the Netflix Original Series JULIE'S GREENROOM premiered to stellar reviews from kids, parents and critics alike. I even featured the series in my monthly column for the Netflix #StreamTeam, and now comes word that the music from the show will soon be available for families to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Varèse Sarabande will release the JULIE’S GREENROOM – Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally on April 14 and on CD May 5, 2017.  The soundtrack features songs performed by Broadway and screen legend Julie Andrews as well as wonderful guest stars such as Alec Baldwin, Carol Burnett, Ellie Kemper and Tony and Emmy award winning performer Dave Hyde Pierce.  Also included on the soundtrack is the original score composed by Ryan Shore (PRIME, The Girl Next Door)

Netflix Stream TeamI've often said that "we're living in a Golden Age of television for kids and family" audiences, and that sentiment is one that bears repeating. Changes in culture and viewing habits have forced change among content creators, and competition has been a great thing for audiences as the quality and diversity of programming has really seen a huge uptick over the past few years. For Netflix in particular, the focus on kids and family has been a big one, and their partnerships have spawned some incredible things - from educational and entertaining, to adventurous and action-packed... and sometimes, all of the above, there's something for every taste. Here's some Rock Father Picks for the Spring of 2017!

Netflix #StreamTeamOver thirty years before DreamWorks' Voltron: Legendary Defender became a breakout hit as a Netflix Original Series (read my feature on it here), there was Voltron: Defender of the Universe... or what kids like myself knew it as back in 1984, simply, Voltron. Now, with the new series already in its second season, a whole new generation has discovered an exciting world, but one worthy of a history lesson. Voltron '84 is a hand-picked collection of twelve episodes from the original series, enhanced by introductions by the creative team behind the current series. To celebrate the arrival of Voltron '84 on Netflix, the Voltron crew has teamed-up with The Rock Father™ to give you a chance to win a couple of new action figures from the folks at Playmates Toys!

Netflix #StreamTeamOver the past year or so, something has changed in our household dynamic here at Rock Father HQ... video games have become a part of daily life. Now, there have always been games present in our house, but aside from LEGO Dimensions and the late Disney Infinity, they weren't really noticed by our girls, The Rock Daughters™.  Oddly enough, despite having some of the newer consoles, it was the classics that really planted the bug. A brief session with the Atari 2600 at a birthday party last year... an infatuation with Super Mario Bros... a curiosity for the dark world of Castlevania. Mirroring my own childhood, Nintendo has become a big deal, with the 3DS XL the platform of choice.  Then, after I took our oldest daughter on a surprise trip to Nintendo's North American Headquarters in Redmond, Washington last November on the launch day for the NES Classic, the world of classic gaming just exploded here, looking toward the past with an eye on the present and future. An interest not only in the games, but also their history and legacy in other facets of pop culture manifested itself, and there's no better place to feed that quest for knowledge and entertainment than Netflix. With the much-anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch upon us, along with the announcement of Castlevania as a Netflix Original Series, here's a look at some video game-based titles to stream right now!

Netflix #StreamTeamThe film just wrapped production earlier this month, but we've already got the first-look at Bright, a new Netflix Original Film. The teaser trailer just arrived during tonight's Oscars telecast, surprising viewers with Will Smith as a member of the LAPD who all of a sudden is rockin' a sword and pictured with an Orc. Indeed, Joel Edgerton co-stars as the LAPD's first "orc cop" in a film that's touted as a story of where "fantasy has become a reality." From director David Ayer (Suicide Squad), Bright will be streaming on Netflix this December. Take a look...
