On July 31's, Disney's DESCENDANTS comes to Disney Channel (premiering at 8pm ET/PT) - an all-new movie event that follows Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart and Sofia Carson as the children of iconic Disney Villains as they navigate the treacherous waters of... Prep School. From Director/Choreographer/Executive Producer Kenny Ortega (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL), the extended trailer for #DisneyDecendants can be viewed below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. And if you dig it, stay tuned, because I'll have some exclusive coverage on this new film coming to the site in the months ahead!

When it comes to live-action Disney Channel fare, I'm always completely honest in that I missed all of the 1990s and much of the 21st century up until recently. While KIDS INCORPORATED and variations on the MICKEY MOUSE CLUB spring to mind as the stuff I recall from the 80s, it's being a parent that has really brought me back up-to-speed, though it's predominantly the excellent animated series' on Disney Junior and Disney XD that are huge in this house, if only because my girls are still pretty young. It also doesn't hurt that STAR WARS REBELS and all that MARVEL stuff is cross-generational, either! But on the live-action note, I know from some of the older kids my girls occasionally associate with that it's some serious business. One familiar face is that of Leigh-Allyn Baker (read my interview with her here), who just-wrapped GOOD LUCK CHARLIE and has jumped into the Executive Producer chair and a starring role in BAD HAIR DAY alongside AUSTIN & ALLY's Laura Marano. After catching an advance screening of the film during my recent trip to Los Angeles, it's time to share a few thoughts ahead of the official premiere tonight at 8/7c on the Disney Channel.

(Disney Channel/Phillippe Bosse) LEIGH-ALLYN BAKERAside from an official premiere or festival screening, it's always a sort of weird thing to watch a movie while sitting in the same room with one of it's stars - unless you're a part of the production. It's also a weird thing to show an audience something that you've worked on when it hasn't already been released - as you don't know whether they're going to like it or not, and there's a certain level of anxiety that can come with that as you screen something that you've already seen dozens of times, paying attention to the body language of those in the room around you. Having been in both situations personally, I can tell you that if Leigh-Allyn Baker was experiencing any anxiety, it really didn't show as the Executive Producer and star of BAD HAIR DAY screened her new film for a family-focused press group just days ahead of it's television premiere on the Disney Channel. What followed was a discussion on parenting, career and taking the reigns to help shape your own path... and of course, BAD HAIR DAY, too.

My Mickey Mouse thumbprintAround this same time last year, I sat here in my office looking at the calendar and realized that my travel plans for the year were shaping-up to look an awful lot like routing for a tour. With "The Rock Father" as my moniker, and serving as publisher of this site of the same name, everything came into focus that I should look at my adventures as just that, and the #RockFatherTour was born. By the end of 2014, I'd logged more miles than any other of my 38 years, and my work had morphed from a "U.S." to a "North American" Tour. Of those missions, four of them led me to The Golden State, one of which was my first of the year.

To kick off the 2015 Rock Father Tour, I'm excited and privileged to announce that I'm going back to where it all started almost exactly one year ago, Walt Disney Studios and ABCMy old pal, Mickey Mouse has been kind enough to fund another big adventure (disclosure and all) on which I will be part of a group of 25 entertainment writers and bloggers that will have the opportunity to meet with the talent and creatives behind several new projects from the Disney family of companies including McFARLAND, USA (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures), TINKER BELL AND THE LEGEND OF THE NEVERBEAST (DisneyToon Studios), BIG HERO 6 (Walt Disney Animation Studios), FRESH OFF THE BOAT (ABC) and BAD HAIR DAY (Disney Channel). While I'll be bringing back some in-depth coverage to be posted as features in the weeks ahead, I'm inviting all of YOU to follow along and take part in the journey online as it happens. Want to know the details?

Earlier this Fall, a DVD collection of the Disney Channel/Disney Junior interstitial series BIG BLOCK SINGSONG was released, and now those looking for the music on it's own are in luck. For the first time ever, Razor & Tie has made available for download BIG BLOCK SINGSONG: GREATEST HITS (Amazon | iTunes), a 24-track collection of bite-sized tunes for kids and families. Now this is pretty interesting... and a fantastic move by Disney. The mouse-owned ABC will air STAR WARS REBELS: SPARK OF REBELLION in a special presentation on October 26 at 7pm e/p, but with an additional scene featuring the undisputed king of STAR WARS villains, DARTH VADER.
