The 1996 film THAT THING YOU DO! is one of a select group of movies (STAR WARS, THE BLUES BROTHERS, BACK TO THE FUTURE, etc.) that I've re-purchased several times throughout the years. I had it on VHS... then DVD... then "Extended Edition" DVD... and now, the Tom Hanks written/directed comedy is coming to Blu-ray (out April 2 via Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment). Rated PG, you could toss around whether or not it's a "family" film, but I say go for it. Hanks is a true music-lover, and THAT THING YOU DO! is a testament to that. I'm surprised they didn't just wait three years to do a "20th Anniversary" release. Has it really been 17 years already?
That Thing You Do!
Written by, directed by and co-starring Tom Hanks, this high-energy comedy about fame and friendship dances on to Blu-ray™ for the very first time. Hanks plays the big-hearted manager of a 1960s pop-rock group called The Wonders that becomes a shooting-star sensation thanks to a delightfully catchy chart-topper called: “That Thing You Do!”
