G1 Transformers Arrive in the New Trailer for Paramount Pictures' BUMBLEBEE

Written by

While it hasn't "officially" been deemed a "reboot," the new trailer for Paramount Pictures' Bumblebee certainly looks to be a fresh start for the cinematic Transformers franchise. If it's not a reboot, it adds to a multitude of continuity errors and conflicting mythology that spawned from the five films under Michael Bay's direction... but if it is a reboot, it's got a solid chance to set up a new franchise that connects generations of fans by finally giving them what they've been asking for: G1 (Generation One) Transformers that actually look like the Hasbro toys and cartoons that audiences first fell in love with nearly 35 years ago. From director Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), check out the new trailer for Bumblebee below!

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Bumblebee is in theaters this Christmas... arriving on December 21, 2018!

Bonus: The 1980s setting opens up intriguing possibilities for the soundtrack, and while nothing has been announced just yet, the t-shirts worn by Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) might be a clue as to where things are going. So far we've seen Motorhead, Elvis Costello and The Attractions, The Smiths and The Rolling Stones. The film's original score is set to be composed by Dario Marianelli (Kubo and the Two Strings, Paddington 2).
