Getting a film made - whether independent or big-budget - is a crapshoot and a struggle, something I've personally had some experience with over the years. It's often those long-gestating projects that hold the most meaning, and for activist and artist Vincent Gagliostro, that project is AFTER LOUIE - a film that he will soon direct from a screenplay that he's co-written with NYC writer/actor Anthony Johnston. Bridging generations and shaped by Gagliostro's own experiences as an original member of ACT UP (The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), AFTER LOUIE tells the story of an artist and former AIDS activist (portrayed by Alan Cumming) "that has become disillusioned with the world around him until he meets a young man." The film is currently on Kickstarter with $17,383 of a $72,500 goal raised with 15 days remaining in the campaign. See the pitch for the film below, complete with words from the cast and filmmakers.

I've attended more than a few sausage parties throughout my life, so when an email from SONY hit my inbox at Rock Father HQ this evening alerting me to their SAUSAGE PARTY EPK, I wasn't sure what they were going for. Then I remembered... there's a naughty film coming out, what's being touted as the "First-Ever R-Rating CG Movie" - meaning: DON'T SHOW THIS TRAILER TO YOUR LITTLE KIDS. You see, they'll want to see it - but it will terrify them! Check out the Red-Band Trailer below...

Activating the #ForGrownups tag here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, because right now I've got a movie trailer that's most certainly not for the kids. It's no secret that I've been a big fan of THE LONELY ISLAND, so now that the Restricted Trailer for their new celebrity spoof, POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING is out, I feel obligated to share it. There's all kinds of family-unfriendly naughtiness in here, so again - don't watch this with the little ones... unless they're babies, in which case they won't understand the language, and they might think they're seeing "lunch" in there.

Official Announcement: Varèse Sarabande will release the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 5 and on CD February 19, 2016. The album features the original music by composer Fernando Velázquez (CRIMSON PEAK, THE IMPOSSIBLE).

A documentary about ballet isn't necessarily something I'd normally feature here on the site, but with both of my girls having wrapped their first run with ballet in the spring - and starting a year-long run of classes this Saturday - my eyes are more open to it (and yes, I did see BLACK SWAN in the theater). IFC Films sent over the trailer for their Sundance Selects release, A BALLERINA'S TALE, the story of Misty Copeland, the first African-American dancer in the American Ballet Theater. The film by Nelson George arrives in theaters and on VOD October 14, 2015. Take a look...

Sam Smith is an Agent of SPECTRE... He Has to Be

Written by

Sam Smith must be working for Ernst Stavro Blofeld. There's no other way to explain him being named the voice behind the new JAMES BOND Theme, aside from him truly being an agent of evil. And don't get me wrong - I love evil, but I don't like whiny evil. This is just my way of rationalizing that one of my most disliked musical artists will now sing the opening words of SPECTRE, the latest installment of one of my favorite film series'.  While I'm sure the multiple GRAMMY-winning Mr. Smith is a fine lad, his music is an unexplainable annoyance for me, one I can only hope is made better by some miracle on September 25th when "Writing's On The Wall" is released for download. Perhaps the song will be excellent and all will be well, but for this listener, Smith's global hit, IN THE LONELY HOUR was unlistenable, whiny garbage.

When it comes to action movies - especially the ones I grew up on - certain actors always come to mind, and one of those cinematic badasses is STEVEN SEAGAL. Yes, many hours were spent by yours truly studying the performances of Seagal through VHS tapes rented from long-gone video stores back in the day, and while times have changed, he's still fighting on-screen, and his latest effort is ABSOLUTION - out this week on DVD from Lionsgate (get it here). To celebrate the release, Entertainment Marketing Group has partnered with THE ROCK FATHER Magazine and a few other action-packed websites to serve-up the Steven Seagal ABSOLUTION Sweepstakes - a giveaway in which one (1) Grand Prize Winner will score some Stamina X Workout Equipment and a copy of the film - and twenty (20!) runners-up will receive ABSOLUTION on DVD! To enter, follow the details in the widget below, or click here to visit the contest page directly!

#StreamTeamWhen it comes to the Netflix Original Series WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP, the cast is just so huge, I can't help but wonder how come I'm not in this thing? Seriously (or not), the cast is immense, and if the 8-episode mini-series (which debuts July 31st on Netflix) is anything like it's just-released trailer, the laughs will be immense as well. The sequel to the 2001 cult film features Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, ANT-MAN himself - Paul Rudd (look for my interview with him coming soon), Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter, along with new characters played by Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, John Slattery, and more. Check out the preview below, but be warned - this is solely For Grownups!

KUNG FURY just may be the greatest action movie of the 1980s to be made in 2015. Written by, Directed by, and Starring DAVID SANDBERG, the crowd-funded epic will have it's Global Premiere this Thursday, May 28, 2015, with Robert Rodriguez' El Rey Network handling the broadcast duties. Featuring KNIGHT RIDER's DAVID HASSELHOFF as Hoff 9000, and THE LONELY ISLAND's JORMA TACCONE as Kung Führer, this Thursday evening just got a whole lot crazier...

What does $100K raised on Kickstarter get you? A lot of different things, I'm sure, but for Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine, $101,145 has funded the product of DIANI & DEVINE MEET THE APOCALYPSE, a new film starring a who's who of familiar faces from "some of their favorite stuff" (as noted in their crowdfunding pitch). The first teaser for the film has arrived, with pre-orders now up on their official site. Judging from this, it looks like MAD MAX with pretzels and a shopping cart. Check it out...

It's hard to believe, but this past summer marked the 10th anniversary of the premiere of ENTOURAGE on HBO. I was completely on-board from the first episode, and watching the show with friends became a weekly tradition. There were parallels to my own group of friends at the time, as I was in the midst of pursuing a career in film/tv, as were a couple others close to me - one of which was a rising actor. By the time the final season rolled around, I actually missed it and stayed completely spoiler-free until binge watching it earlier this year. Now, the first "official teaser" trailer for Warner Bros.' big-screen ENTOURAGE adventure has arrived, and it's reminded me just how sorely this show has been missed. Watch it below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Preview: VH1 Goes Back to 1995 with HINDSIGHT

Written by

Now this is interesting... VH1 has HINDSIGHT, a new (thankfully) scripted series making it's debut on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. What piqued my interest? Time travel and the 1990s. That was a great decade (met my wife in '97), so the prospect of seeing a new series set in that period is appealing to me, if only for a nostalgia trip. The extended first-look (embedded below) features music from the SPIN DOCTORS, ACE OF BASE, HADDAWAY and EMF, while containing nods to THE BLACK CROWES, SNOOP DOGGY DOGG and FRIENDS. Check it out...
