I don't know if there's ever been a definitive study to determine why rockabilly surf punk fits so well with monsters and ghouls, but it most certainly does. Perhaps the most famous example is Jack Marshall's "Munsters Theme," but here we are fifty years later and the jams just keep on coming - and the vibe has gone far beyond the beach, with guitarslingers around the globe breaking out those twangy riffs atop bouncing beats and low-end grooves. On Friday the 13th of October, 2017, Russian rockers MESSER CHUPS will release their latest album, Taste the Blood of Guitaracula - a mostly-instrumental collection of 16 songs perfect for the Halloween season. Ahead of its release, here's a look at the official video for "Midnight Call," along with "Chupacabra vs. Batman." Crank it up!

If you're ready for some new guitar-shredding, country-infused Americana, Texas guitarist, singer/songwriter JESSE DAYTON has something for you... THE REVEALER. Out September 16 via Blue Elan Records (pre-orders should be up soon), the album was recorded in Houston at SugarHill Studios, with DAYTON performing guitar, bass, percussion, and keys, as well as singing his own harmonies. He’s assisted by childhood buddy Eric Tucker, Mike Stinson, and Eric Hughes on drums, and Austin ringers Riley Osbourne (piano and B3) and Beth Chrisman (fiddle). Evans and engineer Steve Christensen, a Grammy Award winner for his engineering work on Steve Earle’s 2009 Grammy nominated album Townes, round out DAYTON’s dream team. “John and I go way back to our days in Houston,” DAYTON explains, “and once we got in the studio it felt like the ghosts of Freddy Fender, George Jones, and Doug Sahm were in the room with us. They all recorded massive hits there with Huey Meaux and there’s just such a powerful vibe. You’re surrounded by all this Texas music history and that’s inspiring.”

I can never say enough good things about BRIAN SETZER. More people need to explore his massive body of work, and I do my best to make sure the youngsters around these parts are exposed to it. That said, I'm really excited for the August 12 release of ROCKABILLY RIOT! ALL ORIGINAL (Surfdog Records). This week, Setzer has released the first single, "Let's Shake" - and it's all the rockabilly goodness you'd expect. Give it a loud listen below, and check out a few words from the man himself...

It's always a special thrill when one of my favorite artists announces a new record - and that news arrives in my inbox completely unexpected. Such is the case with BRIAN SETZER, one of the greatest living guitarists, and one of my top ten favorite artists of all-time. On August 12, Surfdog Records will release ROCKABILLY RIOT: ALL ORIGINAL, a brand-new collection of straight-up rockabilly tunes from Setzer, who's backed by Mark Winchester (bass), Kevin McKendree (piano) and Noah Levy (drums). Recorded in Nashville, the album was produced by Peter Collins (who previously worked on Setzer's VAVOOM! and THE DIRTY BOOGIE).

REVEREND HORTON HEAT's new album REV is coming...

On January 21, 2014, Chicago's Victory Records will release REV, the eleventh studio album from one of my favorite artists, the REVEREND HORTON HEAT. Today, pre-order packages for the new album and merch went live, and a video was released with an inside look at the Rev's Gretsch Signature Guitar. And while you can win one of the Rev's new Christmas Sweaters right here on The Rock Father, you can grab one of those at Victory, too if you're so inclined.

Watch: THE CREEPSHOW - "The Devil's Son"

creepshowdiscToronto rockers THE CREEPSHOW have a new dose of rockabilly goodness online today with the release of their music video for "The Devil's Son." The track comes from their new album, LIFE AFTER DEATH, which hits the streets on October 22nd via Sailor’s Grave Records (U.S.), Stomp Records (Canada) and People Like You Records (Europe). You know, I once wrote a comic book that featured the Devil's son as a villain. Check out the video below...
