Here's a 'Monster' Spotify Playlist...

What makes a monster song? For many reasons, the title "Monster" is one that is often used by a host of artists that transcend genres. From Product of Hate's blistering metal single (for which I directed the music video), to Kanye West's legendary collaboration with Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Bon Iver... from the pop stylings of Lady Gaga and Paramore to the folksy grooves of Mumford & Sons... and from the metallic crunch of Disturbed to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, countless artists have birthed their own "Monster." To celebrate this oddity is to enjoy it together, and I've curated a new Spotify Playlist featuring 23 distinct songs (nearly an hour and a half of music) that share just one similarity - the single-word title, "Monster." Stream it in the web player below, or click here to follow the playlist on Spotify.

Chicago Open Air - Full Lineup Announced!

The full lineup for the First Annual CHICAGO OPEN AIR Music Festival has been released, and I'm digging it. The Chicagoland area hasn't seen a lineup like this in quite some time, and among the ones that had long-been rumored (DISTURBED, SLIPKNOT, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH), there's some pleasant surprises - like the mighty HELMET, who actually received some premium poster space for this one. Perhaps the only thing that could make this better for me is if PRODUCT OF HATE were on the bill, but alas, they will likely be touring elsewhere in July as it is. Check out the official announcement for Chicago Open Air below...

Update: Weiland says he just did vocals for the album as a side project, and will not tour with this band.

Well this one came out of nowhere - SCOTT WEILAND, the former voice of both STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER is fronting a new band - this news coming on the heels of a solo tour and album as SCOTT WEILAND & THE WILDABOUTS. Below the jump you can check out a preview of ART OF ANARCHY, the new band featuring Weiland along with DISTURBED bassist Jon Moyer, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Rob 'Bumblefoot' Thal, and brothers Jon and Vince Votta (guitar and drums)...

On April 22, the folks at Roma Music Group will unleash a new collection of lullabies, this one inspired by Chicago's own, DISTURBED. Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star - LULLABY VERSIONS OF DISTURBED features eleven of the band's biggest hits and fan favorites (along with their GENESIS cover), reworked into nursery-friendly lullabies for your youngest rockers. For the past few years, BEN DRAIMAN has been growing an audience with his piano-driven music, some of which has been showcased on his EP, THE PAST IS NOT FAR BEHIND (iTunes | Amazon). He's also no stranger to cover songs, and has notably tackled a couple of songs made famous by another Draiman - his brother David, and his band DISTURBED. Last Fall, Ben made waves when his version of "Stricken" (iTunes | Amazon) started making the rounds, but today I'm reaching toward something a little more obscure... in the form of a live cover that Draiman performed last summer in Israel. Check out "I Remember You," originally by SKID ROW, below...
