Review: ShtankOut! Odor Eliminator Plush Toys for a Cause...

Earlier this year, a package arrived here at Rock Father HQ containing two ShtankOut! Plush Toys. But were they really "toys," or are they a deodorizer? It's a strange concept that brings a few different elements into a new product, self-described as an "adorable plush clip-on toy that doubles as an odor eliminator – Perfect for smelly sports bags, lockers, backpacks and more." So what's the reality as experienced here in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house)?

WP 20130317 016ShtankOut! is interesting for sure, but not necessarily fun, which makes calling this a "toy" a problem for me. They are a cute odor eliminator, each carrying a pretty powerful, fruit-infused scent, but the problem is, it feels like you're letting your kids play with an air freshener, and that's weird. Hanging these in a locker or backpack is indeed a great use - still not a toy. I also think that ShtankOut! carries an unfortunate name. 

While it might not be fun for the kids, ShtankOut! does support a great cause, with a portion of all proceeds from the sale of ShtankOut! being donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to provide research funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).  The founders of ShtankOut's 10-year old son, Ryan was diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2008. DMD affects about one in 3,500 boys, and is the most common lethal genetic disease of children worldwide.
