After what felt like a little bit of a lull, the past couple of years have delivered some fantastic new ways to foster hands-on creativity. One company that's been leading the charge is Spin Master (an outfit whom you've no doubt heard me mention on occasion), and this year they've got a new spin on creative play with Bunchems Alive!, the latest iteration of Bunchems - winner of the coveted 2016 Activity Toy of the Year Award, presented by the Toy Industry Association. These little balls stick together, allowing for endless possibilities in what kids can create. Squish, connect and create the creatures, characters, structures and vehicles shown on the box, or just free-form to create your own - this is open-ended imaginative play... with NO MESS. And now, with Bunchems Alive!, kids can add motion to their creations, bringing a whole new element into some already rockin' play.

THE ROCK FATHER Magazine has partnered with Tide and Life of Dad to celebrate the #Stainmaker in your life.

As I write this, it’s the height of “Award Season” in the entertainment world, and having worked in that realm before, I can’t avoid thinking about how the season might equate to life at home, as a parent. Surely there could be trophies dished-out for just about everything, from “Best Daily Performance of a Theme Song from an Animated Motion Picture that You’ve Heard 4,000 times,” to “Best Original Song About a Wrestler” (our three-year-old wrote one), to “Best Bedtime Stall Tactic,” “Best Dramatic Performance at a Kitchen Table (Breakfast or Dinner),” and even “Best Performance by a Stainmaker.” Ah yes, that later category is a real wild card… one in which the race to even become a nominee is a battle fought valiantly with an arsenal of colorful armaments.

Disney•Pixar's THE GOOD DINOSAUR is coming home on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on February 23rd, and as I pointed out a couple of weeks back, we're having a contest in which YOU could win The Ultimate GOOD DINOSAUR Prize Pack - or be one of two runners-up to get the movie on Blu-ray Combo Pack. To enter, you simply need to do a craft with your kids - to make your own #GoodDino out of household materials. It can be as fancy or non as you'd like - but you have to make one, then share Photographs of your Good Dino on TwitterFacebook or Instagram (or all three) and tag @TheRockFather with the hastags #GoodDino and #Recyclo. All the details, along with some inspiration and instructions are available in my previous post. Now, I've seen some good entries in the past few days, but there hasn't been a ton of them, so the odds are still really good! To inspire you a little bit more, Addie and I made our own Recyclo! Take a look...

It was just revealed that Disney•Pixar's THE GOOD DINOSAUR is coming home on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on February 23rd, and to celebrate the in-home release of this new film, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and THE ROCK FATHER Magazine have teamed-up to give readers a shot at winning The Ultimate GOOD DINOSAUR Prize Pack. All you have to do is a little arts & crafts - a fine afternoon project with your little ones... you will build your own Recylosaurus! What's a Recyclosaurus, you ask? It's a "Good Dinosaur" made from simple, recycled materials that are found within your own home. We're providing instructions and a little inspiration, but in the end, we want to see what YOU and your kids can come up with at home. They don't all need to look the same. Check out what the creative minds at Pixar created...

With STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opening in theaters just two weeks from today, excitement for a new journey to a galaxy far, far away is brewing. For the youngest generation of new fans comes a 22-page activity kit and coloring pages direct from the team at Disney & Lucasfilm. There's a memory game, a door hanger, a corner bookmark and tools for a papercraft cockpit and control panel. But for me, the most exciting part is the coloring pages - with kids (or grownups) able to color Kylo Ren, Finn, Rey, BB-8, Poe Dameron and more! The best part? It's available as a FREE Download right now.

This week, something unique took place at Wild About Cars Garage in Kirkland, WA - the 1st Annual DriveShop PineBlock Charity Invitational. This race, inspired by the Pinewood Derby competitions that many Boy Scouts (and former Scouts, like myself) know and love was designed to race money for charity, with each car entered gaining $50 to either Make-A-Wish Foundation, Fisher House, Feeding America or 4 Paws for Ability. Put on by DriveShop to celebrate their new name, a number of folks from the automotive industry and their journalistic/blogging counterparts were invited to take part, myself included. The Rock Daughters and I put forth a valiant effort, making a special trip to Hobby Lobby for some supplies by Revell for my first PineBlock experience in over 30 years. Unfortunately, our car was somehow lost by the USPS, and it didn't make it to the race - a disappointment (especially given how much the girls loved the car), but the folks at DriveShop assured me that my donation would still be made for the Make-A-Wish Foundation! Check out highlights from the race below...
