Rock Father readers in the New York City area might want to mark their calendars for June 9. The folks at the monthly Hip Tot Music Festival have announced their final show of the season, with SLAVIC SOUL PARTY set to bring their mix of "throbbing funk grooves, fiery Balkan brass, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops" to families as they take the stage in support of the Community Roots Charter School, a public school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Portland Native Matt Clark, the Executive Director of Johnson Creek Watershed Council (JCWC) knows a thing or two about kids and family music. After all, this is the guy that brought forth some musical love for a certain hairstyle rocked by Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto alike (a "Vulcan Haircut" - since STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is out this weekend). Now, Clark has combined his passion for music and nature into a compilation album entitled SONGS FOR JOHNSON CREEK - a benefit album by a host of Portland Kindie artists who have come together to raise money to assist in Salmon restoration for the creek. Brian over at Silber Records (a longtime supporter of this site) hit me with an email this weekend about a new EP that they've released... BAND ON THE MOON. Not "Family Music" in the traditional sense, BAND ON THE MOON is a collaboration between Shaun Sandor of PROMUTE and his four-year-old daughter, Zlata. The end result is a five-song set of experimental tunes that reinforce Silber's commitment to "passing the music on to the next generation & family being the most important thing in the world."

Not long ago I posted a preview of "Sweet Child O' Mine" here on The Rock Father, and today the folks at Roma Music Group have officially released LULLABY VERSIONS OF GUNS N' ROSES. It's not the first time that the original, pre-CHINESE DEMOCRACY version of GN'R has been lullabied, but this new collection features 13 classics reworked into "lullabies for all ages" -- but they're best-suited for your little rocker's nursery.
