Ten years. Eighteen movies. Never before in the history of filmed entertainment has there been such a complex, interconnected "cinematic universe' that carries so many stories across so many planes. Through individual franchises and multi-hero team-ups, there is no argument that Marvel Studios has created the model that many studios wish to emulate, though few, if any, will ever manage to find the type of success that Marvel has. From 2008's Iron Man to 2018's Black Panther, everything has been leading to this - the third Avengers film and a piece that serves to re-shape the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by laying the groundwork that will close the books on the first decade of storytelling by firmly throwing open a door - or portal - to what may come next. Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest superhero film in history, the MCU's nineteenth film landing in the unique spot of being a new hub from which many spokes will soon spawn. When asked to provide a "two-word review" shortly after leaving the film's World Premiere in Los Angeles, my response was "still absorbing."
If I were to spin back the clock a few decades and point my lens to a specific neighborhood and a specific house somewhere in the south suburbs of Chicago, I would be able to see a little boy that was dreaming of bigger things. Sometimes that child would be tuned into WFLD-TV Channel 32, watching Reb Brown and Nicholas Hammond as Captain America and Spider-Man in re-runs on the UHF band. During those shows there might even be a commercial for the incredible stories being told in the pages of Marvel Comics. It was a simpler time, and one where no one could've ever predicted how prevalent those characters would one day be around the world. Now, as the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to be released, that little boy is now a man - and one invited to walk the red carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War! As a guest of The Walt Disney Company and Marvel, I will be back in Los Angeles as part of a group of 25 writers, bloggers and online personalities as we experience the debut of the biggest superhero film in history as part of the #InfinityWarEvent - April 22-24, 2018! What's unique about this it that the World Premiere will mark the first time that the cast as seen the film... and like last year when the cast assembled at the D23 Expo in Anaheim to share in watching the first footage from the film together, somehow this kid from Illinois will be there with them.
Marvel Studios' BLACK PANTHER is a phenomenon. Now, fans can bring home the phenomenon, packed with light-hearted fun, pulse-pounding action and a powerful message, and watch it over and over again, Digitally in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and Movies Anywhere on May 8 and on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand on May 15. As of this writing the April 27, 2018 release of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War is fast-approaching. I will be on the ground in Los Angeles for the World Premiere - walking the red carpet for the #InfinityWarEvent (more on that soon) - but as the arrival of Thanos looms on the horizon the hype continues to build. While they just released a batch of character posters a week or so ago, Marvel Studios has just unleashed an onslaught of new ones - a whopping 22 new character posters featuring individual poses from some of the core heroes from the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. I never really thought about it until this morning, but if I were living in a neighborhood that was constantly being destroyed due to superhero battles involving The Avengers and the assorted villains that they often face, I'd probably want to move. With that in mind, the folks at Quicken Loans just hit The Rock Father™ with news that they've teamed-up with Marvel for a co-branded Rocket Mortgage promotional spot to show that "the mortgage process doesn't have to be a battle." Additionally, they've revealed that there's Rocket Mortgage product placement in the opening scenes of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War (which I will see at the World Premiere in Hollywood later this month - more on that soon). Product placement helps movies get made, so that's a good thing. Check out the new commercial featuring Iron Man and Doctor Strange below...
I didn't expect that we'd have multiple Marvel stories to start the week, but here we are - and the latest reveal comes from Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War. As of this writing we're a month away from its release, and now comes five striking character posters, each representing the color of one of the Infinity Stones. Of course, Thanos would probably very much enjoy having these in his collection. With so many characters taking part in Marvel's long-awaited big-screen battle, this was a fantastic way to highlight many of them, but still some might be feeling a bit left out. Many are also still wondering what happened to Hawkeye? I heard a rumor that he retired and was teaching archery at a summer camp. Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, 2018. Check out the posters below!
