It's a complicated arrangement that made it possible for Spider-man to finally enter the MARVEL Cinematic Universe with an appearance in this year's Captain America: Civil War - one that paved the way for next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming. The interesting thing is that this next "solo" outing (which we've learned is partially a team-up with Iron Man) is a SONY picture created in partnership with MARVEL Studios (Disney) - and with actor Tom Holland in the suit, we're into the third big-screen Spider-Man of this century. I often wonder if casual moviegoers understand all the "hows" and "whys" of all of this superhero-switching, but as the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming has shown us tonight, this may be the most comic-accurate version we've ever seen, and one that looks to really bring Spidey into the universe that he so rightfully should be a part of. Earlier this evening, I had four little girls (The Rock Daughters™ + 2 friends) huddled around a computer in my office to see the new teaser trailer for MARVEL Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. There's so much to love in this, I'll let the video mostly speak for itself, but I do have to mention that although they're still calling him "Baby Groot," Toddler Groot is going to be the toy that kids want next year.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is once again directed by James Gunn, and will hit theater screens on May 5, 2017. From The Walt Disney Company and its affiliated studios alone, next year is gonna be huge...

MARVEL's The Inhumans was once slated to be a part of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe, but then a strange thing happened... the film was off the calendar, and The Inhumans started making their way into the storyline on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now the plan has been laid out, as today it was announced that IMAX Corp., Marvel Television and Disney|ABC Television Group today have entered into an "innovative agreement to exclusively premiere the new ABC series MARVEL's The Inhumans in IMAX commercial theatres." This marks the first time a live-action television series has debuted in this manner - and it's a series that little is known about just yet.

The MARVEL Cinematic Universe is getting strange this weekend, with the arrival of Doctor Strange into cinemas everywhere. Following the tradition of other recent titles such as ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS Story, the folks at LEGO have given the Doctor's official one-sheet a brick-based spin, with a LEGO Doctor Strange poster hitting the web earlier today. Now that Disney is on Netflix... a Look Ahead

Netflix Stream TeamLast week, the day that many were waiting for finally arrived, with some fresh content from The Walt Disney Company making it's way to Netflix. Now, Disney on Netflix is not a new thing (titles have been there before), but per an agreement made a few years back and now officially enacted, the floodgates are slowly beginning to open for recent releases. In fact, all 2015-2016 theatrical releases from Disney will be headed to Netflix at some point in the near future, with Walt Disney Animation Studios' ZOOTOPIA making the big splash, along with other recent fare like THE FINEST HOURS. So what else can we look forward to? A ton of great films from Disney, MARVEL, Pixar, and yes, even Lucasfilm...

Over the summer, we partnered with my friends at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment to put together something that I've always wanted to have here at Rock Father HQ: A Backyard Theater. The set-up was simple and relatively inexpensive (some items were provided for the project), and sans fighting the unpredictable and uncontrollable factors like weather (heat/storms) and bugs, having the ability to enjoy movies outside, with friends, and in our own backyard was a fun new way to bring people together. We screened some big ones, too - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, ZOOTOPIA, and most recently, THE JUNGLE BOOK. Now that the kids are back in school and the cooler, fall nights are coming, we're not going to let the fun stop. In fact, I'm eyeing some new releases and old favorites for potential screenings this fall. In fact, shorter days make for earlier screenings, so I'm all for grabbing the blankets and cuddling up with the family.
