GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - #OwnTheGalaxy

The MARVEL Cinematic Universe is ever-expanding, and if one thing made solid the fact that audiences are constantly craving more, it's the intergalactic success brought forth by Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax, collectively known as the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. This little-known comic blasted onto screens in August, and since then has pulled in a hefty $771,815,000 globally as of this writing. With the Holiday Season upon us, kids and grownups alike are ready re-live the adventures of the Milano crew again and again, and this week that becomes possible with the release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (GOTG) on Blu-ray and DVD, available at Walmart. But the adventure doesn't stop with the movie, it begins there! As my kids know, any day is perfect to pop on the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (ZinePak Edition) and have an adventure with our Guardians figures and vehicles.

Holiday 2014For quite awhile now, Hasbro has been releasing versions of Mr. Potato Head that have been mashed with other pop culture licenses. While many of these are full-size Mr. Potato Heads (I have an Opti-mash Prime TRANSFORMERS edition from 2007-ish) or miniature (see the Playskool Mixable, Mashable Heroes I posted about recently), now comes something that's more of a medium-sized spud, and produced by PPW Toys under license from Hasbro. Mr. Potato Head Pop Taters are a starchy entry into a collectible realm that's currently being dominated by Funko's Pop! Vinyl - similar in size, but with that classic Potato Head action that kids and grownups tend to dig. With the latest assortment including characters from THE SIMPSONS, DOCTOR WHO, MARVEL and STAR WARS (along with some NHL and MLB-inspired pieces), we received a trio for review, and I've chosen to include them in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER.

Next Tuesday, MARVEL Studios' insanely-successful GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will come home on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere, followed by a Blu-ray and DVD release on December 9th. To prepare audiences for the glorious entertainment that awaits them, a new trailer has arrived - one that reveals how Mindy Kaling now has a thing for Rocket Raccoon. Speaking of which, you might want to check this out for a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY giveaway, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Trailer below...

Holiday 2014Let's look at the facts: As of this writing, MARVEL Studios' GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has raked in $330,004,000 just here in the United States. Factor in the rest of the world, and GOTG has an astounding haul of $764,704,000 to-date. The film is a certified phenomenon, with kids and grownups alike popping the Awesome Mix onto the hi-fi as they attempt to re-live the adventures of Star Lord and the gang (see our hands-on with the toys), including the little loudmouth with a large gun, ROCKET RACOON. In the spirit of giving and to celebrate the forthcoming home video release, Hasbro & THE ROCK FATHER are getting one of you hooked up with a BIG BLASTIN' ROCKET RACOON to call your own. Now remember, Rocket and I go way back to before he was a movie star...

Holiday 2014In case you haven't noticed, TRANSFORMERS and MARVEL have both had a massive year. In the you world, one of the benefits is that Hasbro holds the rights to both, and that leads to some interesting crossover opportunities... like MR. POTATO HEAD Mashables. No, Mr. Potato Head has not been licensed for boxed mashed potatoes at your local grocer (though that would be pretty funny - and terrifying), but these Mixable, Mashable Heroes take a cue from the recent success of the Mashers Line (see my THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICAN review here), allowing kids to literally mix-and-match pieces of their favorite figures into new, original creations. For my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide, the Mr. Potato Head Mixable, Mashable Heroes make the cut, with MARVEL and TRANSFORMERS both represented in style!

After the masterful handling of the week-early trailer leak for MARVEL's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, a lot of folks wondered what then would become of the promised sneak-preview that was slated to air with tonight's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC? Walt Disney Studios answered that with "A Special Look" at the upcoming film, and one that capped a fantastic day for fans of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe. Take a peek...
