There's a big update coming to Six Flags Great America's Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee, Illinois next year.
Tsunami Surge will be the tallest water coaster in the world, towering over the park's Riptide Bay area at over 86-feet tall. Water-blasting jet propulsion technology will power riders through more than 950 feet of enclosed tunnels and open air slides at speeds above 28 mph. The 25th attraction within Hurricane Harbor, Tsunami Surge will be the first ride at any Six Flags park to use AquaLucent visual events to create "mind-blowing bursts of colors and dreamlike patterns, intensifying the ride experience."
“Six Flags is the undisputed leader in delivering record-breaking rides and world-class thrills,” says Six Flags Great America Park President Hank Salemi. “The new Tsunami Surge water coaster is in a class all by itself, defying gravity to blast riders uphill through 950 feet of exhilarating drops, twists and turns. This exciting, new addition is the perfect complement to an already incredible lineup of the biggest and most innovative attractions in the Midwest.”
Tsunami Surge is scheduled to open during the park's 2020 operating season.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation kicked off Independence Day in style this year, partnering with the Coca-Cola to set a new record for the Biggest July 4th Toast in the U.S.
A total of 22,555 guests and team members across 11 Six Flags theme parks — including Six Flags Great America here in Illinois — raised a Coca-Cola beverage to toast America and usher in the annual Coca-Cola July 4th Fest. This year's event features exclusive ride times through July 6, with new Coca-Cola Cool Zones, and a spectacular fireworks show to close each night.
For the first time in park history, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois has thrown open the gates for a holiday season, with Holiday in the Park set to delight guests with a truly magic experience. We're season passholders, so our whole family attended on opening weekend (Black Friday), but I also had a chance to attend the media preview this week, stepping into the park for an experience that most will never have... at 4am on a Thursday, just after a fresh snowfall. Check out my video below to see the park along with my full ride on the Peppermint Swirl - the teacups of Chubasco given a festive spin!
The rumors were true! Following the clues and hints dropped over the past month, along with some trademark filings by Six Flags, the new roller coaster headed for Six Flags Great America is Maxx Force! Announced today, the triple record-breaking new coaster will open at the park in Gurnee, Illinois for the 2019 season. Maxx Force will be the fastest launch coaster in North America, and feature the fastest inversion and highest double inversion of any roller coaster in the world. Check out all of the details and specs below!
Six Flags is going to Hell. When the annual Fright Fest opens for the 2018 season, three of the parks - Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, and Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL (one of our local haunts*) - will feature new haunted attractions based on CBS Films' upcoming movie, HELL FEST, which hits theaters Friday, September 28, 2018.
After taking a year off from Six Flags due to a hectic schedule for us, I surprised the family by purchasing season passes again - just in time for Fright Fest and Last Call for Fall last year. This year we plan to be there often, and one exciting announcement is for something that's looming far off in the horizon... for the first time in the park’s 42-year history, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois is extending its operating season and inviting guests of all ages to be a part of the festivities at the new Six Flags Holiday in the Park. It's an event that's been requested for ages, but the Illinois weather is cold and unpredictable, so it's always been a "wish list" item that guests to other Six Flags parks have enjoyed. The new Holiday in the Park will feature more than one million LED lights, beautifully adorned Christmas trees, thrilling rides, enchanting shows, delicious seasonal food and dazzling park décor. The fun begins on Friday, November 23 and run weekends through Sunday, December 23 and daily December 26 – December 31.
