Having purchased many, many sets of tires over the years, my wife and I have had the experience of buying tires from several different shops and sellers. As drivers of traditionally high-mileage vehicles, new tires and tire repair comes with the territory, but it wasn't until 2011 that we became loyal to one particular store: Discount Tire.

While I get to drive and feature a lot of sweet new rides here on THE ROCK FATHER, a big part of our day-to-day is taking care of the ones that we own. My wife and I have a pair of "daily drivers" here at HQ, and the oldest is the one most-often featured when I talk about car care - my rapidly-aging 2005 Scion Xb. While I've come very close to replacing it over these past few years, I do have some sentimental attachment to it, having ordered it brand-new back in 2004 with a bunch of options and add-ons. I've had many adventures in that little car - over 150,000 miles worth - and that places it firmly in the category of being a "high mileage vehicle." One of the most simple things to help keep that car on the road for a few more years is by keeping the oil changed, and the folks at Pennzoil have a "High Mileage Vehicle" version of their conventional motor oil that's specifically designed to help clean out sludge that lesser oils leave behind, while helping to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. Better yet, I can get my oil changed at the Walmart Auto Center, maximizing my time by getting some shopping done at the same time.

In the summer we think of it as “coolant,” but with the snowy season upon us in much of the country, it’s time to be thinking “antifreeze” as below-normal deep-freeze conditions can wreak havoc on your car. While my hope is that most drivers would've tackled the coolant prior to the holiday travel season, a Hoth-like January serves as a bitter reminder for those who didn't.

Well, here we are again - just a week out from Thanksgiving (or X-mas rehearsal), Black Friday and all of the Holiday fun that will follow. It's that time of year to hit the road for those gatherings - the ones where you reconnect with beloved friends and family... and the occasional oddballs that you only see once or twice a year - the ones with personality traits straight out of a movie or sitcom. While the destination may vary, getting there should always be comfortable, and one way to do that is with car organization products from Walmart, like the Rubbermaid Mobile Backseat Organizer. I've got two of them here at Rock Father HQ, and they're perfect for keeping my girls' goodies organized for wherever we may roam.

When we last checked-in from the garage here at Rock Father HQ, my oldest daughter and I were getting our cars clean after some summer travel that delivered thousands of miles worth of road grime. Now comes prep for Fall (and dare I say it, winter), and now is the prime time to take a look at some basic maintenance - especially for those with older cars, like the 2005 Scion xB that I still rock daily, about 160,000 miles into it's life. One of the most important systems to keep an eye on is the fuel system, and using Gumout All-In-One® Complete Fuel System Cleaner Ethanol Treatment and Friction Modifier is one inexpensive and easy way to improve your car's performance, while cutting down on some of the nasty stuff that can build up in the engine.

Ten years ago, SCION made it's debut here in the U.S., and I - deeply embedded in the entertainment world at the time - found myself enamored by the Scion XB, aka "The Box" after seeing it on the streets of California, where it arrived early. I ordered one brand-new, completely loaded and set to be delivered in June of 2004. In fact, I'm told it was the first black version to be delivered and sold in the state of Wisconsin (and imported to Illinois), but I've never been able to confirm that. I had it decked out with red LEDs to capture that KNIGHT RIDER vibe I dig so much, along with racing pedals, additional performance features, and the top-of-the-line Pioneer sound system. Upon arrival, I bestowed upon it a red Autobot insignia, displayed proudly on it's rear window... a throwback to the TRANSFORMERS debut in 1984. The car and I were ready for adventure, and many adventures were had. Now, in 2014 - I still have the Autobot in my driveway, but things are different. The bazooka tube is out of the trunk (room for a stroller), and in the back are a pair of car seats. 160,000 miles later, my Scion is still rockin', and it's Daddy and Addie that keep it that way.
