It's hard to believe, but it was over a year ago already that MEGA BLOKS announced a partnership with MATTEL to create a series of HOT WHEELS branded building sets (MATTEL recently announced that they've straight-up purchased MEGA Brands). They started rolling out to retailers last Fall, and in that initial wave, we received the first assortment of their Turbo Tubes Build & Collect Vehicles for review here in our State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house). Those rides were an immediate hit, so we were pretty excited when a trio of new rides rolled up to Rock Father HQ a few weeks ago, part of the 2014 Spring assortment. Up for review this time: BAD TO THE BLADE (Team Blue), FAST FISH (Team Green), and a new Team Yellow version of TWINDUCTION.
Much like the first wave, these reasonably-priced building sets range from 51-63 pieces, and each gives kids a vehicle and driver to construct. As I've noted previously, there's a nice "weight" to the finished product, and kids can really play with them. When the weather has been decent, we've had our growing MEGA BLOKS Hot Wheels collection outside for some driveway and sidewalk adventures. This round is no exception, and while the sets themselves are cool for young builders (recommended for ages 5+), grownup Hot Wheels enthusiasts will recognize the 1:64 diecast cars from which these draw their inspiration.
MEGA BLOKS Hot Wheels is still just a winning combo straight across the board: Creative and imaginative building play (and kids can use these pieces to customize and build whatever their minds and hearts desire) infused with the power, styling and speed of toy cars.
