Movies and snacks go together like Han and Chewie, and with the release of Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story, the folks at popchips have a snacking suggestion. A special package arrived in my mailbox here at Rock Father HQ this week - one that contained a bag of popchips Galaxy Puffs and pair of tickets to see Solo: A Star Wars Story at the local Regal Cinemas. It's said "Hey James! This is the box you're looking for!," and contained a note to emphasize that "great movies deserve great snacks," and that they've delivered "the best snack in the galaxy" to "take your taste buds to hyperspace." Now I'm sure that "best snack in the galaxy" is subjective, as Jabba the Hutt tends to prefer a jar of those little frog-like creatures, the Ewoks will forage for just about anything, and who knows what Wuher is serving-up at the Mos Eisley Cantina these days. But these aged cheddar puffs are pretty good - and it's said that they're "Popped with The Force."
When you're into playing music, everything around you has the potential to be used for sonic purposes. While I've always been a guitarist first, I've been known to have percussionist aspirations, going as far as to put a five-piece drum set in our garage - something that The Rock Daughters™ and their friends really enjoy dabbling with. When the crew over at Pringles® asked me to offer up some thoughts about how I'd do a jam (like their Pringles® Summer Jam® Summer Jam!) I agreed, but at Rock Father HQ, there's music being played every day already. I just can't say it's always good, but I'll strap a few Pringles® cans to the drum set to see what I can do...
I love to think that there was a time - a time not long ago, just over a century ago - when you could build something in America that was able to become such a success, that an entire town could be named in it's (and your) honor. That happened when Milton S. Hershey created a "company town" that became known as Hershey, Pennsylvania, or "The Sweetest Place on Earth" back in 1894. Now, in addition to boasting the birthplace and main manufacturing hub for the Hershey's brands of chocolate-based goodness, Hershey, PA also includes a ballpark, arena, a theme park, and the original HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE WORLD. As part of our first Great American Road Trip series, my wife and I took the girls the Chocolate World last month to experience it as a family.
It's been a summer filled with adventure for my family, and with each special journey comes the preparation of a supply pack. For the most part, I usually reload my Camo-style Diaper Dude Diaper Bag with snacks, diapers, sunscreen, insect repellent and an assortment of extra clothing items for the kids - and this generally serves me well for those away-from-home adventures, whether it be the park, the zoo, the mall or wherever our search of fun and excitement will lead. But sometimes there's adventure to be had in our own backyard - right here at Rock Father HQ, and that means changing things up a bit... putting the Diaper Bag to aside and stocking the Guitar Case with some special treats for the girls - like America's Summer Favorites from Snyder's of Hanover.
