When it comes to action movies - especially the ones I grew up on - certain actors always come to mind, and one of those cinematic badasses is STEVEN SEAGAL. Yes, many hours were spent by yours truly studying the performances of Seagal through VHS tapes rented from long-gone video stores back in the day, and while times have changed, he's still fighting on-screen, and his latest effort is ABSOLUTION - out this week on DVD from Lionsgate (get it here). To celebrate the release, Entertainment Marketing Group has partnered with THE ROCK FATHER Magazine and a few other action-packed websites to serve-up the Steven Seagal ABSOLUTION Sweepstakes - a giveaway in which one (1) Grand Prize Winner will score some Stamina X Workout Equipment and a copy of the film - and twenty (20!) runners-up will receive ABSOLUTION on DVD! To enter, follow the details in the widget below, or click here to visit the contest page directly!

THE ROCK FATHER™ has partnered with Life of Dad and STOUFFER’S® as a paid Ambassador for the #FitKitchen promotion. As always, opinions are that of James Zahn, though sometimes influenced by his kids.

THE "WINGMAN": Over the years, that term has meant many things to many people, often conjuring images of action - "Top Gun" fighter pilots flanked by other members of their squadron, heading into battle... or sometimes it's that same level of back-up while vying for the attraction of another - like the silly friend in a romantic comedy. Here in Illinois (especially this close to Chicago), it's a totally different life movie, and sometimes a good Wingman is simply an "associate" - something I can assure you that I know nothing about. No matter what the specifics, being a Wingman means being there for support, and right now I have a new Wingman here in my kitchen at Rock Father HQ - STOUFFER’S® Fit Kitchen Meals. Now, if you've been following me on Instagram (and if you're not, it would be a lot cooler if you did), you've probably seen one of the #AtTheGym selfies I've been posting late at night over the past 18 months. I've been on a mission to get into better shape, and eating better is a big part of that. That's where STOUFFER’S® Fit Kitchen steps-up to assist...

Three years ago, I celebrated one-year tobacco-free with a journal entry about my personal journey. Then, in 2013, I posted again, celebrating the two-year anniversary of coming clean (cigarettes are a drug), followed by another post in 2014 documenting year three, and how I couldn't get Philip Morris/Altria to leave me alone (they since have, but only after I threatened legal action).  Today I am posting once again, as it's the four-year anniversary of kicking the habit. As I've done previously, I am re-posting much of my original entry here on THE ROCK FATHER, along with a few alterations and timely updates. Philip Morris/Altria and R.J Reynolds: The targets on the backs of your companies and leadership have grown...

March 14, 2011 is the day that I officially quit smoking. At some point on the night of March 13, I quietly took the last puff of the last cigarette in the last pack that I ever owned. Upon telling my wife that I was officially ''done,'' she took it upon herself to clean-up some of the ''smoker's mess'' that I'd created. The ashtrays of both cars were scoured. The sand-filled flowerpots that I'd strategically placed on my front porch and near my gardening shed were disposed of, along with a ton of stray butts that had made their way into the surrounding landscape over the winter months. The cleansing had begun.

WWEI'm not sure how many of you have been following this aspect of my personal journey, but since January I've been involved in a Fitness Challenge, and to-date I'm down 35lbs - under 300 for the first time in nearly a decade - and building muscle through a mix of cardio and strength training. I often start the week my checking out WWE Monday Night Raw while working out at the gym, so I was pretty excited to learn that WWE is getting into the fitness game with a new line of WWE Fitness Series DVDs from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. On December 2, things kick-off with a his-and-hers launch of DVDs from "The Authority" - WWE Power Series: Triple H and WWE Fit Series: Stephanie McMahon. I'm planning to give the Triple H set a try, but in the meantime, check out the full specs on the workouts contained within...

THE ROCK FATHERRock Father vs. Rock Father - It's been 30 weeks since James Zahn and Tom George (read the kick-off story here) began a year-long journey to not only lose weight, but get fit. These two Work-at-Home Dads had let time and their jobs take their toll on their personal well-being. For each week of the journey, we've been checking-in to find out how their efforts are paying off. This past Sunday, July 27, 2014, both men did their weigh-in, and these are the results...

On January 1 of this year, I launched the 2014 Fitness Challenge here on THE ROCK FATHER. After years of leading a lifestyle that wasn't exactly great for my body, I started a gradual change three years ago when I quit smoking, and this year the time finally came to really start leading a healthy lifestyle. I've changed my diet, count calories, and now hit the gym 4-5 nights per week. One important change has been making sure not to skip breakfast (which I have a habit of forgetting to eat), and in doing so, I've rekindled my love of cereal - something that started last Fall when I first mentioned trying Silk Almondmilk after not drinking any kind of milk since 1989. Recently, the folks at Silk got in touch about their new Silk Almondmilk Blends - and one of them fit right into my routine: Protein + Fiber. Can Almondmilk rock? I say "YES!"
